This is a bit different explanation of Odin's "crucifixion" as explained in The Rheingold and The Ring. It was interesting and wanted to share it with you all. In explaining the Runes, the author says, "The Runes are a very strong spiritual tool used today for some in Galdr, which is a form of singing the Runes. They are also they used for healing . A long time ago (see Havamal 138), it is said that Odin hung up side down on a windswept tree for nine days and nine nights without food or drink and a self-inflicted wound from his own spear. At the end of his shaman quest, he reaches into the very depths of the Well of Wyrd, spies the Runes, and then cries out while picking them up. The Runes represent all the cosmic knowledge of all time and the individual properly seeking them out, deciphering and using that knowledge will experience their awesome empowerment as Odin did." at http://www.earth-dancing.com/runes.htm Lilli ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I can think of six ... does anyone know for sure what the answer is? Also, while I'm here, just a reminder to leave spoiler space when talking about tonight's X-Files episode, and preface subject lines with "os/" for "other shows". I freely admit this is a selfish request, as I won't be home tonight and won't get to watch my tape for another few days. But I may not be alone in relying on the VCR, so there you go. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I saw that promo about 8554 times during the World Series of Fox Promos (which had a little sporting event crammed in between). Later on in the Bears/Packers game, I saw the less-frequently-shown promo where we hear Shannon McMahon actually speak. Whee!! From some of the images that have flashed by it looks like LL and GA have at least one scene together. We'll have to see. It is the episode where Xena announces "she has many skills" ( embroidery is one of them), Gabrielle shows up in her Amazon brownie outfit, and Salmoneus nearly gets socked by Xena for mentioning Gabrielle's tomatoes. Salmoneus has my favorite moment in the episode when he is shocked that not only is Gabrielle Xena's friend but that Xena has friend at all - the look on LL face at this blunder is priceless. Anyway there is a small X-Files precursor when Xena there is an attempt to drown Xena in a pit. Lucy was at this point developing her underwater acting technique which I understand she will need in her X-Files episode. Greeks Bearing Gifts is a better episode mainly because of a fine performance by the actress playing Helen of Troy. She brings a nice sensibility to Helen. It would be nice to know the basckstory of Xena and Helen's relationship but I like that we are kept in the dark about it - allows the viewer the chance to speculate on it. Of course this the most notable cannon episode because we are introduced to the refurbished and eventually doomed Perdicus. He kisses Gabrielle twice thus really sealing his fate - not only is to die but he will be viciously emasculated in dozens of fan fiction stories. It is however interesting to see the difference between how Xena treats him in this episode and the Return Of Callisto. When Xena is introduced to him in this episode (she obvious didn't remember from Sins Of The Past) she seems very pleased that Gabrielle meets up her old beau. In the TROC Xena seems to be a little less welcoming if not just a bit hostile. Also in this episode it is the first time Gabrielle fighting with her staff. She is fact a very good fighter at this point so I must assume Xena and Gabrielle have been practicing staff fighting in between Xena sewing up the new duds for Gabby ( this obviously where Gabby gets the new outfit because we just learned in BW that Xena is an excellent seamstress). This episode also gives rise to my favorite blooper. The one where Xena and Gabrielle are walking off after Helen and Perdicus go off together and turn to one another and say simultaneously "slut". More later. CherylA ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I noticed that but rather than any subtextual jealousy thing, I originally thought is was in "Greeks" the respect of one warrior for another, and in "Return" the lack of respect for a former warrior who quit. That analysis still holds up quite well but in light of the remaining seasons, the jealousy component is definately there.
