Paris Jefferson [Athena] plays the wife. The story synopsis says, "A diamond hunter escorts an American couple into the forests of Borneo where they encounter a greedy pirate." The time period looked like the 1930s. Mark ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Thelonius ... doing what he's always criticised others for... commenting on an ep without having seen it... and proving that, whatever TPTB do, there will be *somebody* who disagrees with them ;) Hmm... now with a couple of VCR's and some fancy cutting ... voila! Thelonius's version of the Director's Cut with original ending restored :) ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Hooves is of course the most important cannon episode. This is where we meet the Amazons, Ephiny, Gabrielle gets her staff, a change of clothes and becomes an Amazon Princess. A number of interesting points came out during the episode. First we see that the staff long held as a non-lethal weapon is demonstrated by Ephiny to be very lethal (I'm sure Gabrielle must of have caused some brain damage while she was thwacking people left and right for all those years). Second was odd to see Gabrielle reject the bow because she couldn't "hit the side of a barn" when five years latter she is shooting Bambi with deadly accuracy ( Dem Bones). She also rejects the sword and I kept thinking about Halicon and Back. My how the little bard changed in six years. There is some nice Xena moments too. Xena and Ephiny made an interesting team - - you kind of feel they are kindred spirits too bad more wasn't done with that. It also was noteworthy that Xena gives Melosa a very snarky look when she mentions that Xena knows about Amazon customs - we now know just where Xena learned about those customs. Death In Chains introduces Gabrielle's first redshirt - Talas. Of all Gabrielle's dead male suitors - I liked him best. He was a good match for Gabrielle - a healer and would be bard (a young man of many skills). For the record Gabrielle only sort of kisses him - there's a kind of half hearted kiss on the neck as he is about to be lead off to Elysia but I guess that was enough. Also this is the episode we meet Hades and Celesta for the first time. This episode will be referenced in Looking Death In The Eye to very good effect - I thought. It was nice to see TPTB use the Xena's past relationship with Celesta to such good effect. Xena moments to remember. Xena and Lucy meet rats for the first time. A relationship that will be on going much to both women's distress (there is also a great blooper of Lucy dealing with rats in her cleavage). Also I loved Xena's expression when a grief stricken flings herself on Xena's breast. The look of shock and compassion is wonderful acting on LL's part. Lucy can convey more with a single look than most actresses can with a page of dialog. One note I watched the episodes in reverse order. I always thought Hooves should have come before Death because is wearing her Little House garb in Hooves and an Amazon outfit in Death. I always thought there was problem with the centaur effects that held up that episode. More next week. Have you ever seen the 3D interactive version of Death in Chains on the Internet at the Brilliant Digital http://www.brilliantdigital.com/movies/default.asp?pop=xena They have taken a lot of liberties with the Xena stories. but the basic story lines are there They are slightly interactive - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Catch ya later NZJester - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I'm still working my way through my stuffed e-mail box. So if this has been answered before, then just ignore my post. Panzer/Davis - the Xena/Herc Catlaog Store moved out to California a few weeks ago. I have an invoice with the new address and Customer Service number: Xena/Hercules Store 2136 Pony Express Court Stockton, CA 95215 Customer Service - (877)936-4372 The ironic thing about this was I was attmpting to call their 1-800 number and I tried all day. I kept getting something about the number was not in service. I was sure these guys had screwed up somehow. Later that night, my local news had a story on how all of Ameritech's 1-800 service in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and possibly Illinois had gone out for the day. I called the next day and got through just fine. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-chakram-refugees@smoe.org [mailto:owner-chakram-refugees@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Cheryl Ande Sent: Tuesday, October 30, 2001 7:19 PM To: chakram-refugees@smoe.org Subject: [chakram-refugees] Xena catalog question. Has anyone tried to get in touch with the Xena catalog customer service people? Have you had any luck. I've been trying for about three weeks and no luck. Their chat board is full of irate customers and their e-mail doesn't work. Does anyone know what is going on? It's the first time we see Xena being called upon for emotional comfort, and Lucy does a great job of showing stiffness and someone not used to being touched. The fact that Xena lets Gabrielle do this -- and finds herself sharing her new friend's grief -- also says a lot. A great scene to compare to later eps, in terms of Xena's progress in the touchy-feely area. I too love those little gems, where Lucy conveyed something critical (and perhaps instinctive) about Xena that helped define the character's humanity. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
