And I always enjoyed those actors who would kind of shuffle from side to side like horses do when they're feeling spirited or fidgety. (There are no small parts...) It was the long shots that always unsuspended my disbelief. Thinking about it, I realize because they were almost always graceless. I mean it's gotta be HARD to drag around a half a horse behind ya. So their galloping, well, even their walking was always kind of galumping and jerky (as the butt half caught up with them and had to be started again, I guess) and that's just not how I see horses. Horses are wondrous to me and run so beautifully and effortlessly. There's a shot of a centaur at the beginning of the Hercules credits, I believe and I always phhhfffted when I saw him. I don't care much for the horses galloping on air in the Ring Trilogy either--maybe I'm just a little too fussy about horses. Well, yeah, but there's no way to measure those numbers. That's why I specifically said the breakdown only covered those people who posted. That's all you ever can look at and know about. > > the point to all this for me is that i did not see any media coverage of > fan reaction that didn't, to my mind, distort reaction toward the negative. > well, stands to reason, of course. "thousands of fans think ending to > xena's run was excellent" doth not a good article make. > There were a number of positive media responses. But yeah, the only ones that bothered to mention fans mentioned that fans were upset. But certainly, as you point out, there's no story in those of us who appreciated the ending and think it works. Actually, that's the kind of thing you find on like page 3 in the local four-page newspapers of truly tiny towns. "Xena Warrior Princess, the television show that appears on our screen every week and is the reason that the shops are always empty between 3 and 4 on Saturdays, has ended it's run here in Harrotville. Six out of the ten Xena fans in town loved the ending (though it should be noted that five of them ARE the Grady brothers), but the four other fans were so devastated that Lilly Bean Stuart actually cancelled her Tupperware Party that was supposed to start right after the ending credits. She was quoted as saying, "I just couldn't STAND it! That damn pot looks EXACTLY like one of the new Tupperware pickle relish jars! I just couldn't BEAR to try to convince folks to buy it now." We have no idea what she meant by that quote since we had not been invited to the Tupperware Party and so could not ask her "What pot?" And, as we go to press, her phone remains unanswered. We'll try to follow up on this story for our next edition. i just wish, > in the event that it matters to those involved, that the media presentation > hadn't been so lopsided. i had a sort of "not in my name" response but it > never occurred to me that tptb would give a fig so i didn't bother to write > letters. > > md For want of a fig... Horses are wondrous > to me and run so beautifully and effortlessly. > Yes - that's what causes me a problem. You've put your finger right on it. They always look as if they're going to trip over their own front feet. I expect when galloping (though I've never checked it) that the horse's head probably stays on a fairly even path while their neck bends to accommodate the motion of their feet. (Probably Eadweard Muybridge could have answered that question very precisely). It works that way for kangaroos I believe, anyway. ;) Because of the way Centaurs are made, that's obviously not possible.... I would expect them to be permanently in a state of mild concussion. I just recieved a very nice e-mail from Marcy Jo Anderson which I will quote here: Dear Cheryl, Nice to hear from you again. I will send you the poster today but I need to know which Xena Season Two tape since we don't have number 50. What episodes are on your broken tape? Also, let me know if the tape was damaged when you received it from our fulfillment center. Yes, we are aware of the message board regarding our customer service. A couple of months ago we announced that we were moving our fulfillment center to California; this takes a lot of time, effort, planning and patience. Unfortunately our move was during the month of September, the same month our country suffered an immeasurable tragedy. Everyone has suffered directly and/or indirectly and many of our plans i.e. physically packing, moving, trucking merchandise, phone line changes etc.etc. was delayed. We had to arrange a temporary customer service situation in the interim. All Customer Service will be at it's permanent location by Wednesday, November 7th, 2001. Until then, please call the Xena/Hercules order line @ 800 869-1687 for all customer service issues. Please forward your address and phone number so I can get these out to you today. Kindest personal regards, Marcy Jo Anderson Marcy Jo Anderson So there is hope for those who are in need of help. This is an ad, by something called America Video Film. They give an address in Burenos Aires, Argentina (!) and a booth number at Mifed, the television marketing convention. They give no web address but an email adress- america@satlink.com. The ad appears to be for the expanded version of FRIEND IN NEED. It says -- XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS, Director's cut 2001. It shows Xena in her Japanese armor, with Japanese scenes behind her, including the massed archers. It gives the principle credits for the episode, with one error -- Michelle "Lang" instead of Ang. It's a nice cover. This ad would be for TV channels around the world, to find buyers for the expanded episode, perhaps as a TV film. I assume that Oxygen has the rights only for the U.S/Canada, not the rest of the world. I had not been planning to make any effort to get the expanded version of the finale. I didn't like the episode and I am cynical about "director's cuts." However, I am willing to look at extra footage of Xena, so I am ready to trade this cover to anyone who will send me a copy of the Oxygen version. The newstand cost of the issue is $5.95. NEW XENA SEASON FOLIO SETS -- These folios came about because of letters I've been getting from fans who are trying to collect at least one photo from each episode. I decided to make season folios. The first ones will have the first 8 episodes from each season. If you like them, I'll do the next 8 and so on. I tried to find a balance between shots that defined the episode, scenes we haven't released before, and just plain old good-looking shots of Xena and Gabrielle. You can see how they came out on the fan club page.
