There aren't that many people on this list, so it shouldn't take many of us to get copies to everybody who wants one. (Thank the gods it isn't the WHOLE original Chakram list.) I'll be happy as long as part of those 16 minutes contains extra ROC. ;-) I have a suggestion about the taping thing. I'm on an Indigo Girls list that is always doing tape trees. A small group of people volunteers to make copies. The volunteers are assigned to make tapes for those interested based on zodiac sign. For example, if I wanted a tape, I'd request it from the volunteer that was making tapes for Taurus. Arrangements for making the tapes are generally decided by each volunteer (send a blank tape & SASE or send $$$, etc.) This way, everyone that wants a tape can get one and the requests are divided up so each volunteer doesn't get too inundated with requests. I think it usually works out OK although I've never participated. I don't have Oxygen and I only have one VCR, so I'd have to be a requester, not a taper of this "Director's Cut." Just a suggestion. The best way to ship is Priority Mail, the post office gives you the box for free (0-1096-small), one sheet of bubble-pak about 12X12 makes it fit perfectly. If you label it "Contents, Magnetic Media (Videotape) Do Not Expose To Magnetic Fields". It seems to arrive undamaged. So far my sucess rate is 43 out of 44. Postage is $3.50 US. Our Canadian friends need their own tape tree, it's about $12.00 US for Canadian shipping. If I can get a 1st generation copy, I'm in. Forget the SASE or sending the tape, I get them for about $1.25 in bulk, pay me back with something neat (I'm a sucker for for hats). This is only IF I can get a good tape. Our Canadian friends need their own tape tree, it's about > $12.00 US for Canadian shipping. Yeah, I've been doing Flawless tapings for a couple of years now. There's three ways to go. I use the first method myself. I buy Premium quality tapes and up here I get them for about $2.50 per tape. They are once in a great while on sale for about $2.00 but not often. Then I stick them in a free Post Office Priority box which costs $3.50 to mail. I'm too cheap to buy the bubble wrap, so I stick some crumbled up newspapers in there. This adds up to $6. Another way to go is to spend $1.99 for a post office video mailer box and then spend $2.87 to mail that (a person mailed me one about two weeks ago and I specifically checked the cost since I wanted to validate using the Priority shipping with the free post office box as the best way to go.) Going this way for mail costs you $4.80 which is of course $1.30 more than the free priority box AND takes about 8 days to get most anywhere from here (I live in Alaska), instead of the three days which priority usually takes. Add the $2.50 for the tape and you wind up paying $7.30. So in other words you pay $1.30 for more trouble and slower service. Then of course you can go the route of spending $3.50 to mail a blank tape to your recording person, plus $3.50 to get it back, plus the cost of the tape, which brings it up to $9.50 for me to get a tape to somebody. I would recommend method one. > > If I can get a 1st generation copy, I'm in. As the vendors say about the high price of things in Alaska, "It's the cost of shipping it up here". (Someone once tried to use "shipping costs" to explain to me why those mylar ballons cost so much up here. Sheee-yah, riiiight.) I used to just trade tapes but now I got most everything, so now I do it for cost. And bear the price of wear and tear on my two vcr's myself, for the "Greater Good".
