For *major* and quite gratuitous historical and geographical YAXIs, plus a few improbabilities in the plot too, no other ep has come near to OAAA.... but do I hear massive protests? Nope, the only protestor was little ol' meee... ;-) > > i > > > don't think we really have any idea how the 'verse was split in terms of > > > response to the ending b/c many of us who liked it, or at least weren't > > > "destroyed" by it, didn't need to go on at great length. > > > > > > >That's a very good point. > > > > >Having read > >all the posts at once, I know that on the lists that I'm on, the breakdown > >between people who loved it (while still hating that Xena is dead) and > >those who loathed it totally was roughly even with slightly more people > >understanding and appreciating that ending than not. What, fans leave *quietly*? What in the whole history of the Xenaverse makes you think any fan ever did anything _quietly_? ;-) > the point to all this for me is that i did not see any media coverage of > fan reaction that didn't, to my mind, distort reaction toward the negative. > well, stands to reason, of course. "thousands of fans think ending to > xena's run was excellent" doth not a good article make. Yep. Besides, the average ignorant outsider, who thinks that all fans *like* the series they're fans of (now isn't that a quaint and radical notion? ;) would say "Well, duh! What would you expect?" We insiders know better, of course :) > >I found it real intriguing that When Fates Collide and FINS totally swept > >the Argo awards this year. Other eps barely got a mention in any > >category. Agreed.... in fact, of course, all we see is a self-selected sample of the Internet fans (skewed more or less according to which mailing lists we're on). Tells us very little about what the 'average fan' thinks on any particular issue. (Quite aside from the tricky question of where 'fans' leave off and 'ordinary viewers' begin...) Still, thanks KT for that statistic.... I think maybe the vehemence of the negative responses made it look like there were a lot more of them. > i just wish, > in the event that it matters to those involved, that the media presentation > hadn't been so lopsided. i had a sort of "not in my name" response but it > never occurred to me that tptb would give a fig so i didn't bother to write > letters. > > md I think TPTB *must* care how their efforts are received. Maybe not to the extent of changing plotlines wholesale to suit audience demands, but it must be very hard to ignore all the comments - and very disappointing to them if they got the impression of an overwhelmingly negative reaction. Anyway, thanks KT and md and lferae and LeeD for an interesting discussion. T ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. It's quite entertaining. Gina Torres has a recurring role as the main character's nemesis, which is fun -- she gets to kick much ass, and talk in a funny accent. And this week I noticed for the first time that two of the executive producers are Alex Kurtzmann and Roberto Orci. Whether or not this is a good thing is a matter for debate (personally I was scared to see their names onscreen, since I'm in the camp that pretty much holds them responsible for season 5 of X:WP). But it's a fun hour, and it's even more amusing to realize that the show's creator is the same guy who brought us _Felicity_ (my biggest tv guilty pleasure :}). Actors from _Felicity_ keep showing up as CIA agents and stuff, which is just plain silly. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
