Duff - ------------------------------- Joy played to a group about twice the size of her LRT show here. Her band is awesome and really complemented her music style perfectly. She got a chance to move around more and be expressive; "Yellow" was so excellent tonight. Also, she got a chance to meet some of our other friends, including Amy the new singer for the band. Joy dragged me off into a corner before leaving and got me to tell her what had been happening for the last year. She's so sweet and made us all feel like we'd known her for years. She liked the opening act's trumpet player so much she invited him on stage to play on two songs -- and he did a cold start performance that blew the audience away. He'd never so much as heard of Joy before the show. Remember Jim King. :-) We also sold 10 CDs and a poster for her, got a number of people added to the mailing list, and had a really fine time. Every concert I attend, I think "Oh, I've already seen so-and-so live... I probably won't miss too much if I don't go" and every time I go anyway, I end up thinking "Damn, that was fun! I'm glad I didn't miss it!" As always, Joy was worth the time spent. Date: Fri, 5 Mar 1999 13:24:45 EST From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: Joy: How'd you discover Joy? Hi again, I'm kinda curious how folks here discovered Joy. I first heard a brief fragment of her guesting on a 1994 live recording of Jewel that Duff sent to my wife. I was intrigued, but being on the other side of the country, couldn't find her 1st album or see her perform then. About a year later, another friend sent me the "Angel Town" CD & I loved it. The next thing I knew there was an image of Joy singing from on top of my in-laws BBQ on her new website welcome page. That's all I remember. ;-) Alan OK, so it took me a while to notice this. Why this never came my way, I'll never know; at least, I don't think it did. But I was looking over the archives in the smoe.org HQ and saw this and some other old mail. I'm fortunate to have recorded the following in my journal: Wed., Jan. 11, 1995 12:56 a.m. -- What I did today that I've never done before: Saw Elizabeth Hummel & Joy Eden Harrison at the Inner-Change coffeehouse [editor's note: yes, that Innerchange]. Must see both again. Especially enjoyed Elizabeth's touching song about visiting her old bedroom at her parents' home in Washington. So there you are, Alan. I guess I "discovered" Joy the old-fashioned way: just hanging out at coffeehouses. After that first encounter, I saw her again at Java Joe's and at Twiggs (both here in San Diego), and she kinda grew on me. I also appreciated the fact that she's a totally sweet girl. Hope you got to enjoy a bit of San Diego when you were out here working with Camp J, Alan.
