As it happens, neither are actually all that new - Buble's been on the lounge singer circuit for years before finally breaking out with his 'nu-Sinatra' album last year, and this Kazzer dude's also been around for awhile before his recent album attracted label attention. So really, the entire slate of artists nominated in that category are, as Danny Michel put it, 'new to this level', i.e. the music *industry* level, where you have to be signed to a label (a 'major' indie or otherwise) before the suits notice you. As in Danny's case, where he was in a U.S. label-signed band (Starling), has tons of fans and effusive press for nearly a *decade*, and yet the Junos only see fit to recognize him now. Go figure. Honestly, it's almost pointless getting worked up over how totally out of touch the biz is. James' point about 'moving units' isn't too far off the mark - look for Buble to win this one. - - T. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=dept/bcomm&pgmarket=en-ca&RU=http%3a%2f%2fjoin.msn.com%2f%3fpage%3dmisc%2fspecialoffers%26pgmarket%3den-ca ------------------------------ End of canadian-music-digest V7 #3 **********************************
