Spoiler? Spoiler? Spoiler? Spoiler? Alright now.... So I watched the entire Much VJ search finalists...(and taped the parts I missed to go to work and then watched those :)) I was just GLOWING as I watched these young people shine on national TV. And two, count them *two* were from our lovely nation's capital, Ottawa. I'm so proud :) I was having a conversation with someone yesterday about the state of the music industry...how everything's manufactured...I was particularily disturbed about a string of commercials I saw, one for Britney Spears, one for Mandy Moore and one for Jessica Simpson. When they put them all together like that, it was even MORE obvious that they were carbon copies of each other. (alright alright no flame war or anything ok? just drop it :)) Blech...so I was about to give up. But thank you, THANK YOU to those 7 finalists who have now assured me that the future for music and for Canada is indeed bright. When the finalists were narrowed down from 7 to 3, my two Ottawa boys were still in the running: Quddus (pronounced Ka-doose) who hosts a radio show on uni station CHUO, and Elia who's a camera guy for the NewRO (tv station here) and who I met when he was filming the Great Big Sea show in Ottawa :) I cheered, and out loud at that :) I was particularily rooting for Elia due to the fact that he was very knowledgable and played a bunch of videos from Ottawa indie artists. The other one of the 3 was from Winnepeg, not as well spoken as my hometown boys, but definitely dynamic. Screw the Superbowl I said! I was totally on the edge of my seat for this Much VJ search, I was positive Ottawa would come through. But yet I was crushed...Brad from Winnepeg won. A sad day for us Ottawans. But still a glorious day for Canada and for all music. These young talented folks brought a new view, vision if you will, to Much Music. Often playing videos you wouldn't usually see on MM. (and in Elia's case, *premiering* several new videos, including his own! hehe) I was just so excited for all of them. Denise Donlon told them all their futures were very bright, and I agree. Just look at what the youth of our country has to offer...it's beautiful. And so much more undiscovered talented is out there too. I can't wait for it to surface! :) Even though an Ottawa contender didn't win, they should have :) But I'm damn proud of them. And I'm sure they had the time of their life. Here's to dreams coming true! Cheers.
