(raye's entourage took up quite a bit of room. :) anyway, so rayanne gets two bars into her set, and i -knew- she was going to me *on* tonight. wow. :) man, she was amazing. i was pleasantly surprised by how well she worked with the band. raye's voice is powerful enough (and the sound tech is good enough) and she wasn't drowned out _at all_. very nice drum work. yeah to chelle :) who had lots of fun, was oh-so-slightly inebriated and still managed to pull together a great set. happy birthday, girl. (how'd the exam go?) trishee was, of course, lots of fun. what crazy covers. and on the piano, too. someone get that girl a steinway grand. i missed her drum bit, though. :) got to play "small world" with karen and pete. seems to happen to me a lot at shows. learned how to pronounce aquezada (thanks, julian!). laters. "I'd rather see the world from another angle." -- Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 17:36:39 PST From: "Tabassum Siddiqui" Subject: New Wild Strawberries news... Hey, folks... Quite a shocker - I had no idea the Strawbs had left Nettwerk. Too bad... Although I don't doubt for a minute that they'll be able to either go it on their own (which they'd likely be fine with, as they'd spent most of their early part of their career as indies), or find a new label home (maybe Warner, seeing as they're the ones who facilitated the new track on "Women and Songs 3"). Looks like that new song is doing quite well for them, and it's great to hear that they *will* be making their annual appearance at the Humble and Fred Xmas Eve morning show at the 'Shoe - they haven't played live in *ages*, so it'll be awesome to see them again. - - Tab :) - -------------------------------------------------------------------- From music columnist Liisa Ladoucuer in this week's Eye magazine: Christmas also came early for Toronto's Wild Strawberries. The band has a new track, "Wrong to Let You Go," from the new Women & Songs 3 compilation, spinning on Pop Adult radio. The song, featuring flamenco guitarist Robert Michaels, came about when a Warner Music Canada rep asked Strawberry Roberta Harrison to sing at his wedding. "I didn't want to bring my band out, so I played with the wedding band, which in this case was Robert," recalls Roberta. The rep loved the collaboration and had the two put together a track for W&S, a series that has sold almost 800,000 copies so far. In other news, the Strawberries have severed ties with Nettwerk Records. "We asked to be let go," says Roberta, "but it was completely amicable." The band has a new record written if you'd like to offer them a Big Fat Deal. In the meantime, they'll play the Humble and Fred Christmas party at the 'Shoe on Dec. 24. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of canadian-music-digest V2 #181 ************************************
