Promotion and Songs ‘n’ Such are pleased to announce the release of LAURA THOMAS’s long–awaited debut CD, "SIMPLE THINGS". The CD Release Party will take place on Tuesday, November 23rd at The Rivoli in Toronto. Doors open at 7:30, and the cover charge is $6. Toronto club audiences know Laura Thomas by her nickname, “The Bongo Lady," but this title scarcely does justice to such a versatile and multi–talented musician. Congas, guitar, piano, harmonica, bass and foot tambourine are among the instruments you might find Laura performing on, but it’s her voice that always captivates the crowd—warm, smooth and velvety. An original member of the AMANDA MARSHALL BAND, Laura has also had the opportunity to play and sing with such notable musicians as VINCE GILL, JEFF HEALEY, MICHAEL BURGESS, STEPHEN FEARING, RON NIGRINI and NORM HACKING. Longtime host of some very successful “Jam Nights” across the GTA, Laura is also a well–known Toronto club performer, and has appeared at festivals and events throughout Ontario, including the Blue Skies Festival, Caledon Folk Festival, North American Folk Alliance Convention and Eaglewood Folk Festival. At last, the riches of Laura’s voice and her many talents as an instrumentalist are joined with her skills as a songwriter in her debut CD SIMPLE THINGS. This collection of pensive and hauntingly beautiful original tunes includes frequent audience requests Virginia and My Little House, as well as ten other songs ranging from folk through rock and pop. Produced by JOE PASSION (who also performs on several tracks) and KAREN KANE, the album includes appearances by such notable musicians as DENNIS PENDRITH on bass, ALYSSA WRIGHT on cello, ROB PILTCH (LOREENA MCKENITT) on guitars, and BLAKE MANNING (KIM STOCKWOOD) on drums and udu. Laura Thomas’s original music from SIMPLE THINGS will be featured in the first set of the CD Release Party, beginning at 8:00. Joining her at The Rivoli will be BLAKE MANNING on drums, MITCH LEWIS on guitars and mandolin, RODNEY ST. AMAND on bass, JOE PASSION on piano, and ALYSSA WRIGHT on cello. The Rivoli is located at 332 Queen St. W., east of Spadina on the north side of Queen. SIMPLE THINGS will be on sale for the special price of $15 (normal retail price $17–20). A portion of the proceeds from each CD sold will be donated to Covenant House, an institution that helps runaways and young people to improve their situations.
