Well. I am pretty disappointed. :( I *love* the first three acts (Sarah, Sheryl, and IGs) of the lineup, and maybe the Dixie Chicks will be fun, but Deborah Cox?! She can sing, and she's Canadian, which are 2 points in her favour, but her music is kind of canned, generic R&B. Geez. As for the second stage lineups, don't even get me started. I like K's Choice okay, but who the heck is Morley?! Joan Jones - yuck, bland folk. Bif Naked - she's a good writer, but the music is blah faux-punk. I am not amused. I'm only hoping that the TBA second-stagers (there's a persistent rumor going around that Sixpence None the Richer is going to be on the Toronto bill somehow, which would totally make my day) and Village Stagers will be good. Jessica wrote that Emm said she *might* be doing a date, and maybe, maybe, maybe (PLEEEEEASE!) her friend Sarah Slean can get the other slot. As for the local contest winners, I think we are going to have good ones this year, because the shortlist is made up of a lot of fairly well- known local indie artists such as Andrea Florian, Renann, Blaise Pascal, Vicky Fraser, Rachel Kane (they all play or have played the local club circuit extensively and are ready to move on to a bigger stage in their careers). If I had to guess, I'd bet that Andrea Florian and Renann, the best and probably most well-known out of the group, will clinch the slots. Anyway. It would be wonderful if it happened, but I'm not holding my breath. Finally, can I just say, *FOUR* friggin' Canadian dates?! That is just sad. I realize they apparently lost money on some of the smaller Canadian markets last year, but I thought it was supposed to be about the music and the fans, not only money. Oh, silly me. ;-P - - Tab :) P.S. Thanks so much for all the early birthday wishes, list-folks! Goodness, it isn't even until tomorrow... But they're much appreciated. :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of canadian-music-digest V2 #78 ***********************************
