It looks like Sony has pushed the album back once *again*. In the meantime, Amanda fans can check her out in a photo spread in the new issue of Mademoiselle (I think it's the one with Keri Russell on the cover). The spread features musical pairs - Lisa Loeb with pal Duncan Sheik, Amanda is paired with Jennifer Paige (of "Crush" fame). She looks great, but the caption says her album is full of "Melissa Etheridge-type ballads". Uh, *no*. ;-P That does have me a little worried, though. While I do love her first album, I was really happy to hear that she was co-writing the new one because I'm really not into artists just singing songs written for them, you know? I also was hoping she'd move forward artistically with her songs somewhat, go for a more diverse sound (as much as I like them, a lot of Amanda's songs sound the same after a while). But I understand all the songs on "Tuesday's Child" were co- written with those bigshot American hit songwriters. You know, the Diane Warrens (I don't know if she's actually one of them, but I'm just using her as an example) of the biz. That makes me a little worried, because that's totally the *opposite* direction I'd want to see her go in. Obviously her label is looking to break her into the U.S. on a bigger scale than last time with this album, so they need the big radio hits, but I'm just hoping they're not all generic- sounding ballads, because Amanda can definitely use that huge voice for more than that, and she's shown more interesting writing potential than overblown ballads on her self-penned material on the last album. Anyway, I guess we'll just have to wait and see... - - Tab :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of canadian-music-digest V2 #69 ***********************************
