Finch" Subject: Rufus I finally got around to buying Rufus Wainwright's CD (ie. I finally got the money to go on a *major* CD shopping spree--still waiting on most of it from CDNow). So far, I love it. I was playing in the office the other day and the guys who were painting my office stopped, looked at me and said, "What on earth is that you're listening to???" They weren't impressed by Rufus' piano and vocal stylings. Oh well, their loss. What prompted me to email about Rufus was I just heard "April Fool's Day" on the local radio station. I was out running an errand and when I got back my student said, "You know that guy you were listening to yesterday? They are about to play that song he has out." Stunned I asked, "You mean Rufus Wainwright?" "Yeah, that's the one." Huh. And sure enough about ten minutes later they played it. I find it kinda weird on a lot of levels. I normally don't listen to the radio--it's only on because we're under a tornado watch and there's a hail storm not too far away so we've got the radio on to listen to any changes in the weather. Then, of course hearing Rufus on the radio at all is weird for me. Plus it's odd for it to be played on this station. The station used to be pretty cool but recently has made a turn toward Sugar Ray, N'Sync and Backstreet Boys. This was the last place I thought I'd hear Rufus. At least it was a pleasant surprise for a change ;-). rox ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ rdfinch@mindspring.com http://www.unc.edu/~roxfinch Yeah, I'm crazy, but I get the job done. --Ben Folds Five "Philosophy" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Mar 1999 20:44:07 -0500 From: "Andrea " Subject: Fw: MAYBRICK online NEWSLETTER - MARCH 1999 > hey kids, > > Things are still going quite well with the CD : we're still holding the #2 > spot on the HMV Indie Charts and we're now getting a bit of airplay in the > US.
