Time to get the winter blahs? According to psychologist Ellen McGrath there's lots of different kinds of "Blues", including the the "Burnout Blues" (characterized by 'shortcutters', 'hyperdrivers' and 'speed parents'), the "Age-Rage Blues", and the "Pooped Parents Blues". (How much did she spend for her education?) McGrath suggests four sources to beat the blues - People, Action, Creativity, and Time. Isn't it amazing that all four can be accessed at THE NEXT SID SIX GIG. SID SIX are playing at the Rivoli (332 queen st. w.) THIS THURSDAY, february 11th, (sorry about the short notice) with guests zygote and mary’s lounge recording artists - the conservatives. show starts at 10pm; cover is $5. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< SOME NEWS ABOUT SID SIX two short tidbits - SID SIX is confirmed to play at Canadian Music Week, Friday March 5 at the Bovine Sex Club (somebody was listening to the lyrics of Girl Next Door) at 10 PM, right after our friends the Carnations. On a tip from Tab, I checked out this month's Access Magazine, Sarah Slean is sandwiched in betwen a few other artists I've "sung" the praises of the past few years. Robin Black and the Intergalatic Rock Stars. Glam is back, bay-bee! That and a strong connection to another cool about-to-break band; Red Autumn Fall, whoa, tres cool. Scratching Post, well they're cool, they're strange and well, what's not to like for me. I've described Nicole Hughes and the boys as Julianna Hatfield does DeathMetalRegga. It rocks! Zoebliss who was an impressive opener at least years Red Autumn Fall CD release party. Good things to come... and Neko Case, in cub, in Maow, with Corn sister Carolyn Mark and on her own, Neko has always impressed me with her no-nonsense attitude to music, whatever the genre. Well, and frightened me, just, a bit... ...I feel so good and so.... ...vindicated. :-) James. ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An artist should be fit for the best society and keep out of it. - - John Ruskin ========================================================================== ------------------------------ End of canadian-music-digest V2 #23 ***********************************
