Get this! Its cooooool! :-) Its one of my favourite albums from '98. :-) > Watch for new Coal video "The Dark"..... "The Dark" is my second favourite song on this album (after "Anti-Cool"). Nicole brings COAL a whole new vision in "The Dark". In some ways its not exactly a typical COAL song, but its powerful and yummy. And I like it. A lot. I have _long_ been a fan of COAL's dark/light vision and the current incarnation of the band is quite tight. They have a twangy, edgy, loungy feel with a seemingly effortless style of playing. Lounge Noir/Country Goth Punk. Its pretty difficult to slot them into any category but their own. I first "discovered" COAL via their "Ace of Spades" cover on Mint Records, The Mint is Still A Terrible Thing to Taste. Motorhead never sounded so, um, smooth. :-) The CD also contains the video for "Invisible Man" which is quite cool and innovative. Dir. by Marcus Rogers, COAL bass guy extraordinaire! Who also directed/produced The Widower (a CINESTER Production starring Shawn Milsted (who you might (if you search the credits) remember as a crew member on the Alicia Silverstone movie, The Crush (also shot in Vancouver)) and Ramona Orr). It sounds like a neato movie! If you can find their first release, the self-titled COAL on Zulu records, pick that up too, its a fine piece of work. The second album is much better though, they have matured as songwriters and really, obviously worked on honing their craft. I love to see that sort of dedication to music. But the first album has some great stuff, "No Angel" Nicole's lilting, twangy ballad, and a very interesting cover of "Last Train to Satanville" by, d'oh, I'm gapping here Ginette... ...something. COAL has five videos now: "Ace of Spaces", "No Angel", "Sleepwalking", "Invisible Man" and "The Dark".
