Rufus Wainwright Lands Gap Commercial Big news today for fans of Rufus Wainwright: the Montreal hipster has filmed a new television commercial as part of the popular Gap holiday campaign that will air any day now. Rufus joins a list of artists which includes Luscious Jackson, Lena Horne, Run-D.M.C., LL Cool J, Aerosmith, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Herb Alpert as spokespersons for the Gap. Rufus was asked to reinterpret a classic holiday song for his spot, so viewers can look forward to a cabaret-style rendition of "What Are You Doing On New Year's Eve?". Wainwright performs at a grand piano in the spot, which will be airing on MuchMusic, and shows such as Ally McBeal, Dawson's Creek, Fox NFL Football and a one-hour prime time Saturday Night Live special. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Dec 1998 16:17:37 -0500 From: Steve I Subject: Re: Rufus in gap commercial At 03:49 PM 12/9/98 -0500, Paul Schreiber wrote: >Rufus Wainwright Lands Gap Commercial I saw that commercial yesterday... let me tell you, I was more than a little surprised! I actually quite like it. So is this selling out? He *is* selling a corporate image, after all. Personally, I don't think so, I think that artists have to pay the bills too, and in a sense this is just another aspect of performing and getting some free exposure to boot. Wonder if people are going to start requesting the song at his shows? :-) Steve ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Dec 1998 18:26:17 -0500 From: "Tumbling Andrea " Subject: 1999 Juno news Here it is... - --- Expect more musical diversity than ever before, interspersed with the irreverent comedy of Mike Bullard when the 1999 Juno Awards Show hits the screen Sunday, March 7 at 8 p.m.*, live from Copps Coliseum in Hamilton. The Juno Awards Show, co-produced by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CBC Television, will be fronted by comedian Mike Bullard, the star of his own Comedy Network and CTV show, Open Mike. Bullard, a great supporter of Canadian artists and music, will introduce a wide range of performances, including pop, rock, urban, swing and country. The full talent lineup will be announced in early January. Lynn Harvey, no stranger to the Junos, will be producing the show for CBC and Stephen Stohn is executive producer on behalf of CARAS. Harvey produced the Juno Awards from 1989 to 1992. Stohn is executive producer of Riverdale, the prime-time Canadian soap opera seen on CBC TV. Lynn Harvey says, "I have a special relationship with the Juno Awards, having been so involved for several years, and I am delighted to be back as producer". Said Stohn, "With the musical talent confirmed, to date, and the reasonable ticket pricing of $35 and $45, you can look for an early sellout." Tickets go on sale December 11 through Copps Coliseum Box Office in Hamilton, at (905) 645-5000, and at all Ticketmaster locations. There is a limit of eight tickets per person.
