Looked like it was going to rain, so I brought a sweatshirt and jacket. Slightly overdressed. :) Took the 10:30 GO train, got in to Toronto at 11:10, grabbed a subway to Queen station, and waited for the streetcar. And waited. And waited. After like 25 minutes, I gave up. Grabbed a friggen cab for $13. So much for the free concert. :( I guess the silly parade was blocking the streetcar. Anyway, I got there, and Dayna Manning was on stage. I was confused -- wasn't Emm supposed to be there? Apparently she's stuck out east due to the pilot's strike. Don't we all love Air Canada? However, I really liked Dayna's set. She was quite good. Did guitar and piano bits. And a song she had just wrote (seems to be a trend lately :) Chantal, Emm, Dayna...). She even professed to be a little nervous. She's so cute. I had seen the Waltons once before (Sarah Slean opened) and wasn't so excited to see them. But I was pleasently surprised. They were quite good. Wasn't into The Philosopher Kings. Lotsa teenagers really into 54-40. Standing up -- in Toronto. Oooh. Colin James and the little big band was good, too. I went to Beachfest yesterday too...I wanted to go mainly for Emm too, only b/c of friends being VERY late, I missed her...of course we got there and they tried to convince me that it was *only* Dayna Manning...um, that didn't help their case to say the least...I've seen Dayna a couple of times, and I'm still very dissapointed I wasnt able to catch her perform...anyway... My friends and I managed to catch a little bit of the Waltons, but since it was already a little after 1 and we wanted to see 54-40 and the Philosopher Kings, we thought it'd be smart to fill our tummies first...after meeting 54-40 and some yummy Licks cooking, we caught 54-40, whom I really like a lot...yeah, I'm a teenager and I was standing, that's the way it should be [imho]...I must be honest, I missed the first half or so of their set b/c I was talking to some people I bumped into, but I'm glad the band sang a good mix of both old and new songs :-) "Love You All" is one of my favourites...must say that after seeing the band, I might have to add their cds to the looooong list of must-haves I already want... Next of course, were the cuties of the Philosopher Kings...I thought they were pretty good, entertaining, etc. I especially like their new drummer, Denton, he seemed to know what he was doing, and my friend Jen seems to like him a looot...a good looking band I must say, very good lookin' indeed...[yum] Besides that tho, I did like their set a lot, I only wish they jammed it up a knotch and made it a little easier to dance along to when they had the chance...I'm young, I need to move. I ended up getting "Famous, Rich and Beautiful" at the HMV tent after the band played. They had a little autograph session, with the whole band, got to meet them, they're very very nice, [and yes, cute!] got some photos, etc. My favourite? The guitarist dude with the big blue hat, he's mine...don't know his name tho, trying to find out...My friends and I walked away very happy... And that was BeachFest, yes I know it's supposed to be about the music, but that's the truth, I'm in love with the whole band! ~Andrea! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ICQ: 10294764 AOL IM: TheAndyC "So I keep walking so I keep walking singing sometimes Feeling like a shit 'cause I know what's happening Investing like a rich girl, gambling like a Vegas idiot Putting out where I haven't much before" - -Emm Gryner ------------------------------ End of canadian-music-digest V1 #68 ***********************************
