For a treat, here's a pic of Jane from Hillside '97:

I torture friends on occasion by singing "Know Your Chicken" out loud. :-) Yeah, the Knife is a lot more perky, Cuddlecore is perky. If you're starting to get into the perky vibe :-) , check out Bunnygrunt, Go Sailor!, cub, Maow, (some) Plumtree, some times Cecil Seaskull (Nerdy Girl), um er sometimes Pizzicato Five, Trixie Beldon, ... Cuddlecore is Punk, bad glasses, stuffed toy animals, candy, food, bad relationships and heavy, heavy perkidom! :-) Which brings me more into the Ob-CanMusic thingy, Canada was really a hot bed in the late 80's early 90's of the Cuddlecore movement. It really only flourished hear and in Japan, though I really think with Japan its more a cultural fascination with idoru than Cuddlecore-qua-Cuddlecore. Its also got to be both cultures quirky sense of humour, as the only US bastion of Cuddledom was the West Coast. Or maybe I'm reading too much into things. James. (Who, oddly, is in a much better mood after seeing Bauhaus last night for 40, mumble, mumble dollars last night, than Big Sugar free the night before. (for our US subscribers $40Can = 1 postage stamp US or a really cheap cup of coffee... but its about a weeks wages here. ;-) )) {Oh wait, I meant to mention see the fabo Robin Black of the Intergalactic Rocks Starts, pal of Red Autumn Fall, cutter of Moe Berg's hair, at the Bauhaus gig. He was ever so glam in a Murphyesque black feather boa, holding court among the minions of Darkness. :-) If anyone has a chance to see the IGR's do it, they rawk, they're cool and they're stars, baby!} :-) P.S. Maybe I should get more sleep. ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nardwuar The Human Serviette: "Do the guys with LSD get the most chicks?" Why do I like Canadian music, you ask? Well, mostly 'cause it's not the same ol', same ol' radio-played stuff you hear every day. And there's nothing like a relatively obscure musical artist to get me going! (Damn! Now they now my innermost secret!) So anyway, I've now ordered at least 17 cds from IndiePool (13 of them arrived today via UPS, prompting this post), and I have to tell you about them.....well, kind of. I'm really just going to list them and let those of you more familiar with these artists tell *me* about them (since that's faster than my actually listening to them all). My first order consisted of: Andrea Florian - Only Human (If you don't know Andrea, you *must* get this!) Coco Love Alcorn - Happy Pockets (I had ordered her eponymous album, which was quite jazzy -- Happy Pockets is much more of a pop/rock album. Both are very good!) Various Artists - News From Nowhere Various Artists - Live From the Press Club Various Artists - Indie Buzz - To Boot Various Artists - Nomad Music "Bears" (has Tara MacLean's "Clayoquat Song") And just because I ordered all of these (or maybe just because of my sparkling telephone personality) I received a complimentary copy of Indie Buzz - More -- a 2-CD set! I love to order these Various Artists compilations in order to try out the most music possible. I've found lots of treasures!!! Ok then, in the IndiePool order I received today: Dick 'n' Jane - self-titled Elle - Nympholepsy Andrea Fields - The Rooms in My House (I know this was mentioned on ecto before, so of course I had to try it! Good stuff! ;-)) Hennessey - Dig It Up Various Artists - Hidden Treasures/New Music West Holly Go Lightly - Means in Your Possession Mardi Jayde - Trapeze Northern Variations - In the Moon of Winter (a capella Xmas stuff) Tyley Ross - Treading Water Men in the Moon - self-titled Kelly Brock - self-titled (the absolute only reason I ordered this is because isn't she a movie actress? or am I thinking of someone else?) Susan Cogan - Space Age Primitives Various Artists - Indie Buzz - the Original (my freebie for ordering in mass quantities and because I'm their best customer) So this post is meant to be a conversation starter....if anyone has anything to contribute. ;-) And, Gregg (to whom this is cc'd)? Have you joined the canadian-music list yet? Shop at IndiePool, y'all! They's good people! Why do I like Canadian music, you ask? Well, mostly Just so folks know, Sarah Slean's CD _Universe_ is also available via IndiePool. A real bargain right now for you US folks with the Canadian dollar at a historic low... your YankeeBuck is now worth a CanuckBuck and half. >Andrea Florian - Only Human (If you don't know Andrea, you *must* get this!) >Coco Love Alcorn - Happy Pockets (I had ordered her eponymous album, which > was quite jazzy -- Happy Pockets is much more of a pop/rock album. The last time I saw her Kevin Fox opened for her, I can't remember if he also played in her band or not. >Hennessey - Dig It Up I have this one... Hennessey are an Ottawa-based band, and James M. and I saw their last show in Toronto, which was lots of fun. I find the CD a bit disappointing compared to their show. As far as their show goes though you either love 'em or hate 'em... James and I loved 'em, my friends who were along for the ride hated 'em. >Holly Go Lightly - Means in Your Possession I keep meaning to check her out. Review, please! >Kelly Brock - self-titled (the absolute only reason I ordered this is because > isn't she a movie actress? or am I thinking of someone else?) Wasn't it Kelly *Le*Brock?
