Oh look here comes the chronic crossposter....sorry!!!!! note: you canadian music list ppl will like this one :) after that whole big Fruvous thread......:) Begin: Moxy Fruvous has a new fan. Here's the story. I went to the folkfest yesterday. I took the freakin OC bus that took forever but while I was on the bus for over an hour I met these Fru-heads who were going to the folk festival too so it made it more fun...they kept yelling "are we there yet" to the bus driver and made him mad :) After the disorganization surrounding my pass (I ended up with a red pass and a blue bracelet) we were set. I asked some other folkies working there what kind of access I had but they didn't know...all I know is I'm allowed into "performer hospitality" so that's cool:) We put down our blankets (in the lawn chair section :D) and listened to Christine Grave...who was good but had a short set and I missed half of it to make a phone call :p After Christine was OH SUSANNA, one of the main reasons I wanted to come...she rocked of course despite the short set :( (Oh ya, I seem to remember Oh Susanna as being a bunch of ppl...-band-...at the tulip festival...does she have a band, or am I insane?) Then Vance Gilbert came on. He was from the states which, he thought, gave him the right to totally make fun of Canadians :p but besides that he was great! esp the a cappella "Pigeon Song" and at the end when he held a note forever. After Vance we got food. Instead of crap junk food they were selling real food! from different countries! We bought rice from the india tent and when we were walking back, who should walk right by us but --OH SUSANNA!!!!!!! I wanted to say something but couldn't cuz I was to scared and shy---famous ppl! :) (passengers: add this to my list of "famous ppl I had a chance to talk to but couldn't" :) When we came back the Mike Plume band was playing...they were really cool and more rock-y then the others. So we ate during Mike PLume and during the intermission we checked out the village (:) made me feel like Lilith!) to check out more booths. Finally, the highlight of the nite: MOXY FRUVOUS!!!!!! WOW!!!!!! I knew they were good but this kicked ass! They are *hilarious*!!!! Since they *were* Canadian they were allowed to make fun of Canada :) (and the states) and they did an extremely funny sing a long song that made fun of everything. These guys are great improv-ers! When they did "King of Spain" I got all excited cuz I knew the words (who doesn't? :) and the whole audience was singing...They played "Go to The Moon" or something w/ the moon...which was pretty...their harmonies rock!!!!! another funny one was green eggs and ham...yes, dr seuss in song...and really really fast :) at the end the cute longhaired guy said: This is the first time in 5 years I've fucked up the words to that song" :) In between they joked and talked to each other...I can't get over how funny they are!!! :) I don't know if they plan what they're gonna say on stage, but it sure doesn't seem like it! For the last song, I think it was called "Love Potion #9" cuz I've heard it before, I got up to dance cuz I couldn't resist!! They used "Stayin Alive" "Who Will Save Your Soul" and a couple of other songs and band names in that one. Great, of course. Then they left! :( Anyway, after we were all frued it was Erin Corday's turn. She was soooo cool! and she played this chilean folk song on what seemed to be a mandolin. Her voice is SO pretty! But sadly :( I had to leave in the middle of her set to be picked up :( but lucky for me, I still have SUnday!!!!! and the bus thing :) so....was anyone there??? Also who can tell me: Is Moxy Fruvous one of those bands whose albums aren't worth it cuz they're sooooo much better live? And how long have they been around??? cuz I remember them when I was about 8 or so and I'm 15 now....but yet they look like they're in their 20s! Sorry for all the questions...but I didn't pay attention to the moxy thread :I QUOTES OF INTEREST: MOXY: "Any fans of food?" (cheering) "This is Moxy Fruvous, the political activist group. We're fighting against the anti-food people. We have a simple, one word slogan: EAT!!!!" :D VANCE GILBERT: "I was so sure that Quebec license plate meant 'I am a souvenir' That's why I was late today...and why my jaw hurts" OH SUSANNA: "I love it when they say (fake french accent) 'Le scrappy bitch tour'" there were prolly more..... luv Shawna =) "Once I was the king of Spain, now I eat humble pie...and now I'm jammin with Moxy Fruvous..." -MF :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of canadian-music-digest V1 #59 ***********************************
