If you haven't heard 'Radiosonic' yet, do yourself Well, my alternate title for that post was, "The best reason not to have a date on Saturday night." :-) > It was actually born out of the ashes of Vancouver-based RealTime > (R.I.P.), which was much like Radiosonic is now, and Nightlines, which Yes! RealTime really nutured my interest in the Canadian indie scene. It made me realize how easy it is to meet and exceed CanCon rules and in no manner sacrifice quality. It was a perfect compliment to the big festivals like NxNE and CMW and better yet they covered Music West and Halifax Pop ...something...geez its called something else now anyway... ...festivals I haven't managed to get to yet... ...beaucoup info. > I have to say, I missed RealTime for quite a while, but Radiosonic has > really come into its own over the past year or so. Aaa! I remember the announcement of the merger... and the initial announcement of changes. I was very panicked and angry. Why mess with a good thing. But I've become very happy with RadioSonic over the past year. One of these days it'll supplant RT in my heart :-) > Hey, speaking of Radiosonic, did anyone happen to tape either Dayna > Manning or Holly Cole's sessions from a few weeks ago? Partial on both I think I missed the first song of each. Holly's was a really nice gig! Ok... now for a question, mainly directed westward to any Calgary subscribers. I'm looking for info about a Alberta-based singer/songerwriter called um... Rebecca(?) Owens, especially wrt to any product she might have out. I've heard only about a 30 clip which peaked my interest. She was at a very recent indie music festival in Calgary. Any info would be most appreciated. Also, if you have a change check out Hamilton-based Allison Dawson, who was third on the bill for Sarah Slean/Kinnie Starr. Neat stuff. Comparable to Rhea's Obsession at least in mood and sometimes sort of an acid jazz/dub/folk fusion that had some particularly interesting choices in phrasing. Someone to watch. Kudos to Chris Briscoe for choosing a fine lineup. Also check out Chris' new band Briscoe! Have a Nice Second Half of the Weekend All :-) James. P.S. Oh if anyone has also heard anything about a group called Breakbeat Era, I'd be happy to hear about them too... ...dunno if they're Canadian. P.P.S. If you are gonna go see Dayna Manning at Taste of the Danforth, stick around for Ron Hawkins and the Rusty Nails (Ron H is ex. Lowest of the Low) doing some torchy rock and swing stuff. Cool Daddy-o. Cool! Look for their new release "Greasing the Star Machine" on,um, er... Sept.19. I'll not be there, but if anyone is could you request "Crack Static"? :-) P.P.P.S. If there are any music majors on the list, what's with A flat Minor. I was doing scales most of the morning and well, I'm coming to hate A flat Minor. Ick.
