I keep reading all thse comparisons to Tori and Sarah, but frankly, to me, that's really lazy, because if you listen closely, she really doesn't sound like either of them at all. I know journalists and the public need a reference point of sorts when discussing a musical style, but in Emm's case, none of these comparisons really apply, because she has a very unique style, which was one of the things that drew me to her music in the first place. And speaking of her amazing musicianship and production knowledge, one of the things I've been marvelling about over the past week or two is how well 'The Original Leap Year' stands up to 'Public'. I mean, even though 'TOLY' was recorded on a shoestring as opposed to the major-label, big-budget production of 'Public', I think it's an equally good album. And that's definitely a testament to Emm's playing, singing, but more importantly, musical vision. If she could record an album that well back then without all the resources she has now, that just goes to show that she really knows what she's doing and exactly how she wants her music to sound. And in an age of pre-packaged pop stars, that's really refreshing and relieving to see. - - Tab :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jul 1998 11:19:01 -0400 (EDT) From: James McGarry Subject: Re: Stooner recs Emm Gryner On Mon, 27 Jul 1998, James McGarry wrote: Oppps! Having seen both Kinnie and Sarah this weekend, I am just sooo excited at a smaller venue. Both Kinnie and Sarah wowwed 'em at this weekend's Hillside Festival in Guelph. I think Sarah had people flippin' through their programs. It was possibly the best Sarah Slean show in months. She was definitely at the top of her game. And if Sarah was good, darn good. Kinnie Star was... ...well I very nearly fainted. Literally. I am not kidding. James. :-) P.S. For those of you who missed the Red Autumn Fall CD release party at the Rivoli this Saturday. Tsk, Tsk. A mind-blowing show featuring a guest appearance by none other than Robin Black from the Intergalactic Rockstars for "Blazer Boys"..wo-ow! ========================================================================== James McGarry | jmcgarry@UoGuelph.CA - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An artist should be fit for the best society and keep out of it. - - John Ruskin ========================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jul 1998 18:36:23 -0400 From: "Andrea " Subject: Real Audio stations?
