I was just in Toronto for NXNE back in June, and availed myself of some CD shopping while I was there...I picked up a WEA compilation disc called "women & songs" that has been living in my CD player, mostly because of this amazing song called "Dogs and Thunder" by a band called Weeping Tile - most of the other acts on this disc I've heard of - in fact, relatively few seem to be Canadian, with the excpetions of k.d. lang, Sarah, Jann Arden...there are also cuts from Jewel, Paula Cole, Emmylou Harris, Indigo Girls (do I see a Lilith there here?) But I'm going with the assumption that Weeping Tile is, in fact, a Canadian band. Can anyone get me any info about them? Thanks much... Latest word is that it will be released in September. Talk about a band getting screwed by record labels.... They have three CDs out on WEA here in Canada. The first, eePee was initially released as an independent in 95, Cold Snap was released later in 95 on WEA, and Valentino came out late last year. The band is essentailly Sarah Harmer's vehicle for delivery of her marvelous songwriting. Guitarist Luther Wright (who has his own independent CD release out there) has been with the band for some time, while the remainder of personnel have changed quite a bit (though the lineup has been stable for the last year or so). But bottom line is this is Sarah's band. Great band. I didn't truly appreciate them until I first saw them live almost three years ago. Looking forward to doing so again later today at the Stardust Picnic here in Ottawa. I believe WEA Canada has more on Weeping Tile on their web site - you might try surfing around. Dave.
