They used to tour around a bit more a couple of years ago. I first heard them open for King Aparatus at the Volcano (RIP!) in K-W. They have one CD, for which there's a bit of an in joke. The switched vocalists a while back and rerecorded the whole CD. She signs earlier copies of the CD with things like "Gee, I've changed a lot!" :-) The first iteration of there CD is 1994... Steve Dall (Vocals/Guitar), Erin Jackson (Lead Guitar), Adam Bisby (Drums and Percussion), Chris Jackson (Bass), and Pamela Brennan (Vocals/percussions/guitar). I think their 'new' singer is Christine(?) something (this was before I took notes... *sigh*) who's a much better vocalist but doesn't play any instruments other than tambourine. I keep wanting to call her Natalie, I think thats mainly because she's reminiscent of a young Natalie Merchant (circa "My Mother the War" off the evilly hard to find Secrets of the I Ching album, I think(?)). I think they get their name from the saying "Water can run up hill if you preay hard enough." The CD is titled 88 Fifth, for where it was recorded and mixed, 88 Fifth Avenue, O-Ttawa. Last I saw them and this was maybe two years ago, they did a bit of a cross Southern Ontario tour jaunt which took them into Guelph for one gig at the Albion and several on-campus at the Brass Taps. Then they dropped off the face of the planet. I've heard nothing from them since. They were one of the very promising acts at the very first NxNE. Standard plug: if you haven't yet, give "Live Noise" a listen. It's their concert CD just out a couple of months ago, getting general rave reviews, and it really does give you a sense of what they're up to these days. Or at least, what they were up to last fall. Doesn't include the Island-music feel to "Pisco Bandito" or the 10-minute middle-eastern jam they've sprung on us at recent shows. . . *smile* >ceecee, since you're the resident Moxy guru (oh how I miss Sarah and Tara >:(:( ), do you know where I can get past venue lists? I saw them at a >club called Milestones in Rochester, NY, but can't remember the date. Why do you miss Sarah (Hoffman?) and Tara (Full of Bourbon?)--are they offline now? "Resident Moxy guru"--heh. Hey, all... I knew they were big, but wow! The boyz from Scarberia debuted at #3 on the Billboard chart this week, selling close to 150,000 copies of "Stunt". What with their recent packed in-stores, and people going to the underwhelming HORDE fest mainly to see them, it looks like the guys are on a roll... It's pretty amazing. :) Unfortunately, and rather surprisingly, they only debuted at #9 in Canada, according to the Toronto Star. This really shocked me because they seem to be #1 in most of the music stores in Toronto at least. Strange. :( Oh, and I suggest a letter-writing campaign to Toronto's slapdash eye Magazine for their snarky and stupid review of "Stunt" in this week's issue... I've already mailed mine in. ;P - - Tab :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of canadian-music-digest V1 #23 ***********************************
