Aug 12 - Boston, MA Aug 14 - Ottawa, ON Aug 15/16 - Toronto, ON Aug 17 - Buffalo, NY Melanie's new album 'Adam's Rib' will be in Canadian stores on September 1, 1998. But, there's no need to wait that long. Discover 'Adam's Rib' online at Melanie's new web site, to be launched the first week of August. >> If you don't know who Melanie Doane is, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at her beautiful music. She's a Canadian singer/songwriter who has an album called "Shakespearean Fish" -- among my favorites! Well, I think this is my first post to the list (my *real* first one seemed to get lost somehow). So hello to you all, and *waves* to the many familiar faces/email addresses on the list. Andrea typed: >I was down at the Toronto Street Festival on Saturday...such a crazy >day...anyway, I went down specifically to see Dayna and hopefully catch the >Wild Strawberries too... You didn't go see Emm Gryner? For shame! Just kidding. You did miss a good show though! >So did anyone else catch either/both of these performances? I saw Dayna and the Strawberries and a good many more besides (Emm, Glueleg, the Inbreds, and Junkhouse, plus King Cobb Steelie and the Mahones on Sunday). While it's always nice to see Dayna, I think this was the least enjoyable of the times I've seen her. I wasn't impressed with the sound, Dayna's heart didn't really seem to be in the performance, and most of all, for some inexplicable reason she didn't have Kevin Fox playing with her (cello and backing vox). I find him to be such an integral part of her shows that his absence is a palpable missing element when it occurs. Maybe that's why she seemed less into the performance The strange thing was that he played with Emm Gryner just a couple of hours earlier a few subway stops away. How strange, and disappointing. That said, it was still fun to see her. The Wild Strawberries were in excellent form though, and in fact I enjoyed them rather more than the last time I saw them, right around the time Quiver was released, maybe partly because I was familiar with the new songs (I don't have the album yet either). I won't go into the other bands since I don't have the time, but they were all fun, especially Emm and King Cobb Steelie. I ran into Emm enjoying the Mahones' set on Sunday. >Kerns. Anyway, for those in the Toronto area, she said that she wasn't so >sure if she was going to play August 15th b/c of Lilith and all...Ya know Hmm... what's on August 15, besides LF? I knew she was scheduled for Taste of the Danforth, but I didn't know there was something after that. ========================= No Edgefest reviews? Time permits me only to say this... Green Day - WOW. To say that these guys know how to put on a show is like saying Bill Gates knows how to gouge software consumers. OK so that's an unsavoury comparison. Gets my point across. They completely stole the show at the Toronto Edgefest, apologies to the scads of great Canuck acts on the bill. I'd seen them before, but they were never like THIS. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet (are there any more left?) but all I can say is, if you're going to Edgefest, don't miss Green Day! Anyway Andrea, we should meet at a show sometime soon. Can never have too many concert buddies. Maybe that's why I've found this too, with the notable exception of her CBC performance on, oh, geez louise... that cheese-ridden variety show, the one that had Graham Greene... ...despite some comments to the contrary, I loved that performance. ... Kevin Fox, Toronto's cellist ;-) Speaking of Dayna, did anyone catch the Radiosonic broadcast of her CMW gig (Horsehoe) on Saturday night. I missed the first half, but it was a lot better without the crowd noise of actually being there. > Hmm... what's on August 15, besides LF?
