PLEASE SEND ALL RESPONSES TO: mail@joelcage.com JOEL CAGE "WEEKLY" UPDATE JULY 23, 2002 I wish to share with you, this moment, some words of my own writ regarding the grievous passing of Mr. David Carter. Those of you who know not of whom I speak, may have heard his name as part of the folk duo "Dave Carter & Tracy Grammar". I will not boast of a true friendship with Dave, though I believe I can say that in the enjoyment of our few meetings, I found Dave to be kind of fellow whose respect for his colleagues, and most likely all good people, made me feel like one brief meeting was all the prerequisite necessary for a life long bond. Indeed, in the anticipation of our inevitable paths-a-crossing in our respective travels, I was looking forward to hooking up with an "old chum". I will not boast an intimate familiarity with the better portion of his music, though I believe I can say that Dave was a songwriter whose works embodied the honesty and "succinctity" of Hank Williams, the literacy of Leonard Cohen, and a story-telling ability the likes to which all the great weavers of poetry and fiction aspire. Within the context of the few fine tunes of David's to which I have had the pleasure of listening, he spoke of ghosts returning to revisit loved ones, of dying as a great, soaring release, and of deliverance, a soft touchdown, from which to begin anew. I wish this now, for the man himself. The world has lost a great spokesperson, and mankind a true friend. Please take a moment to pass a kind thought for Ms. Tracy Grammar, one among many, who will mourn a more personal loss than I. I have gigs this week, which I will not post here. Please visit the website for my immediate schedule, and, should you chose to join me, I will do my best to carry on the tradition to which David Carter's contribution will be celebrated for as long as there are ears to hear, and souls to recognize the importance of all art forms in the elevation of the human condition. Be well, my friends, and as always THANKS FOR READING THIS FAR!
