Let the echoes of all hearts beating in tandem this weekend past continue to resound as we contemplate what was, what is now no longer, what should have been and what will be. Cheers! May 30 8PM Club Passim, Cambridge, MA 617-492-7679 A CD Release Party for the "Best Of Boston" compilation CD recently produced by Dave Nickerson. He's been doing a swell job promoting this collection of tunes to all areas of the muso biz, and working at getting up enough interested parties to warrant a tour presenting the artists contained therein, of which, proudly, I am one. Dave's annual "BOB" concerts in Hopkington have become an anticipated staple of the local folkie scene, and he deserves all the support and respectful nods of assent he can get. Sure to be a worthy outing should you choose to attend. Also appearing : Bernice Lewis, Susan Levine, Cormac McCarthy, Tara Greenblatt, Richard Berman, Steve Barkhimer& Julie Rosentha May 31 9PM Murphy's, Newbury, NH 603-763-3113 I seem to be having more and more fun each time I play here .. I guess I have finally acquired the "pulse of the room" as we transient troubadours like to say... SATURDAY, JUNE 1 2:00 - 4:00PM HARPOON BREWSTOCK FESTIVAL Something like the 8th Annual Brewstock Festival, and I'm proud to say that I've performed at every one of them ... This is one of the coolest events offered to and by the Boston community. A must attend occasion, if you're into testing out the best independent offerings in the brewer-world, and a host of excellent musos.! ... and here's a few further down the line: Jun 29 The Burlington CoffeeHouse, Burlington, VT 802-864-5888 Jul 7The All Asia Cafe, Cambridge, MA 617-497-1544 Jul 19-21 The Big Kahuna, Bridgton, ME 207-647-9031 Aug 31 The Sober In The Sun Festival, Spencer, MA Sep 19 Middle Earth Music Hall, Bradford, VT 802-222-4748 If You've Read This Far Dept. An Editorial. In my travels and meetings of so many diverse and honorable folk, I have often encountered those who opine the "devolution" of society, and fret in the worry that mankind is going to hell in a hand basket. To this I summarily respond to the contrary, professing my belief that we as an organized species are in a state of evolutionary flux that is inherently forward in direction, one baby step at a time towards a Star-Trekkian utopia. Call me an optimist ... I recently encountered this interesting factoid: When Mark Twain released the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in 1885, it was received with mixed reviews and actually panned and banned in certain libraries and communities because it bestowed virtue upon a rather unseemly character who's activities transgressed the morals of the day, i.e., smoking, drinking, cussing, and carrying on with questionables such as the runaway slave Jim. This in a time when it was, albeit controversially, considered acceptable to take a one's identity completely away and to treat him/her and his/her children and sale-able commodities, provided, of course they fall within a certain racial distinction. Indeed, although we have done away with with this business practice, and in part, this prejudice, we now have art forms that glorify the far more heinous social practises, i.e. the films Blow and Summer Of Sam - a limited citing upon which I am sure you could embellish. The ebb and flow of morality is indeed an interesting study, and perhaps my adherence to the premise of forward evolution is in err ... upon comparison, it seems rather a sideways motion at best. I realize, of course, this observation is limited in scope, and all tunnel vision aside, within the broader picture, it is my belief that hope prevails ... All my best to each and every one of you, and as always .... THANKS FOR READING THIS FAR!
