This mp3.com phenomena is taking the "grass root" music movement by storm, offering free, high quality recordings for any who want to take the time to download, and reflecting the public's response through tabulated "charts". By my observations, MP3 lists their "top 1000" - that's no typo - on which "Lover" placed "73 in the "FOLK" category... songs move up the ranks based on "# of hits" by yoiu, the viewing public. They also provide a neat "Email to a Friend" feature which automatically emails a copy of the mp3 file to any email address you offer up - this is a great way to spread the word and I would welcome your participation - if you get a minute, please visit the mp3 site and perhaps send a copy of one of my tunes to someone you feel may appreciate it, and in turn we'll see the tunes crawl up the charts, who knows, maybe even to #1 - what a gas! SO PLEASE VISIT: http://www.mp3.com/music/world/folk/ Another great night at The Kendall - and a successful "live" recording effort as well - I think there were more than a few "keepers" in this set. Thanks to all who offered up presence and a lung or two toward the audience track, and especially to comrade Jay Williston for performing yet another brilliant feat of live engineering. and, of course, the pleasure of performing yet again w/ my old pal Mr. Al Halliday & The Griffins - cool tunes from a cool guy! My warmest regards to Mr. Miguel Carerras for sharing another fun-filled evening at The Sittin Bull in Maynard - Miguel is a prime talent and a stand-up individual - 'tis always an honor to share a performance experience with this man. Alas, due to the the unpredictability of inclement weather, my performance at the "Best of Boston Songwriter's Showcase" was kioshed. Kudos to Dave Nickerson who held out despite the threat of rain, and pulled off the bulk of his presentation with the applomb of a true professional. The Hopkington State Park site was tres pastoral - a mini Woodstockian glen on a gentle V-shaped slope crested by a grove of New England desiduous. A fine job on the sound gave those who performed a sweet opportunity. Dave does good work - no less than the best! As I continue to record my panoply of upcoming projects to be released over the next year, I welcome your input. Please send along your suggestions for cover tunes you might wish to have appear on the upcoming "Covers" CD, which, by the lovely Judith's decree, I plan to have released by Xmas 99, along with the "Live" CD. God knows, I have a zillion ideas of my own, but I'd be excited to encorporate your suggestions as well. and now... GIGS THIS WEEK Thursday, August 19 8pm SHORTY'S Bedford, NH 603-472-3656 A great local hang for those of you in the Manchester, NH area, but well worth the trip if you' reside elsewhere. Always a surprisingly courteous and attentive audience graces this comfortable venue, and the staff are real fine folks. A new fave for me. Friday-Saturday, August 20-21 9pm EBENEZER KEZAR'S Lovell, ME 207-925-3200 Barring any updates, this will be my last performance of the '99 season here. In my travels, I have always sought out venues that feel like "home" more than "work", and this place tops the list. Tuesday, August 24 8pm GRITTY' McDUFF'S Portland, ME 207-772-2739 As I've said so often, easily one of the most eclectic and prestigious purveyors of original performance venues in the great state of Maine. Slow but sure, I meet new friends every time I have the pleasure of appearing on their "stage". Greetings to the Ms. Sara - mistress of the evening... MORE LIVE RECORDING DATES: Thursday, September 16th - Horsefeather's, North Conway, NH A final attempt to capture the low-key vibe - a very relaxing atmosphere with just a touch of austerity - sounds like a menu item... Thursday, October 14th - CLUB PASSIM, Cambridge, MA http://www.clubpassim.com This will be a one stop deal between west coast and midwest tours. ONe of my most "important" shows of 1999. There will be some very special guest appearances at this show... Advance reservations strongly suggested - please come help make this show the "tide-turning event" it has all the potential to be. Friday, November 5th - THE GREY GOOSE, Londonderry, NH I'll be making some promotional visits to this awesome venue in preparation for this big show. The last recorded performance before the Live Release by Xmas '99. THAT'S THE HAPS Hey! - Wanna Buy A CD? JOEL CAGE: Last Hard Road & JOEL CAGE: Nobody are available for your purchase.
