Several of Joel's friends requested songs in the same time period to WUMB. As a result, WUMB sent Joel a blistering e-mail saying that he "must not believe in his music". This happened as a result of Joel asking his friends to request his songs via e-mail. I called WERS and WUMB this morning around 8:00AM and requested "Winter". The WUMB guy said "I don't know if we can find it" in a voice suggesting it was in the trash can. He pretty much suggested that they would not play the song. So I dropped another quarter and called WERS. The DJ said "Joel Cage, sure we'll get that right on for you." Ten minutes later they played it. There is nothing wrong with an artist asking his friends to request that his songs be played by a radio station. It's not like Joel said "I want you to blitz them with calls between 8:15 and 8:30." WUMB should have just laughed it off: "Joel sure is getting a lot of calls this morning." That's their job. For a station to discriminate against a performer for this and using terms like "put-up job" is unethical. What kind of agenda is this so-called college station running under? Well, WERS has three times the broadcast power of WUMB anyway. I cant even get ten miles north of Boston without losing WUMB's signal.
