Hi Cageheads, I love to tell my Joel story: Last summer my brother and I were at Horsefeathers in N. Conway, not during ski season. Joel was in the back playing to a practically empty room (a travesty to be sure). Well somewhere during our conversation we started to pay attention to him and by the end of the night we were completely blown away, cheering madly for this unassuming musician who played his heart out in that situation, no differently than if he'd been at the Centrum, looking like he'd crack his guitar in half at any moment. I bought his album Last Hard Road and listened to it about 100 times during the next week. I've seen him several times (I think my brother and I have achieved "groupie"-status) and I have to echo what Stephanie said about him. He is just one swell guy, to sum it up. We'll be heading to Passim this week to see him again. I'm not sure how to categorize Joel either, but I do have to say that he has proven to me that writing lyrics is not a lost art. His are some of the most colorful, poetic, powerful lyrics I've heard, with an amazingly diverse range of topics covered in his songs. And what wonderful melodies. I could go on and on, but enough for now. This is so exciting to hear all these stories...oh, I love good stories...and I probably have a few non-Joel related good stories of my own to share... WELL, I will be at Passim's on Thursday evening. I forget, though, what time it starts...can someone remind me so I can make sure I am out of my office and in Passim's by then? ALSO...i would LOVE LOVE LOVE to meet all of you other cageheads! How can we ercognize each other at Joel's passim gig? Hrmm...i have a reservation for 1 (for justl ittle ol' me...) for dinner and then the gig...it sounds like there will be 3 other people there...get back to me ASAP if you would like to forfeit your reservations and have me add you to MY reservation--so we can all sit together! Anyone interested? This Passim gig should be great...let's all encourage our friends to come! One of my friends was going to come but bowed-out for a Mary Lou Lord gig...which makes me a bit worried, because even tho MLL is good and I like her stuff, it lacks a lot of originality...and her lyrics lack a lot of thought and care...they're pretty generic and mindless... ANYWAY...on to other stuff...I have sent out an email or two about this, and I am sure Joel has mentioned this in his JCUD, but I wanted to let you all know that on Sunday, October 25, at 3 PM, Joel is doing a house concert in my living room...anyone interested in coming? Admission is $10 per person, all proceeds go directly to the singers (Joel will be sharing my floor with Jane Kelly Williams from NY...another amazing talent...) i encourage you to all come to my living room and to Passim--it's gonna be a whole lotta fun! Email me... cage-love, stephanie * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Stephanie Maria Kartalopoulos * The Greek Poet Chyck kartalst@hugse1.harvard.edu This is my prayer for you: May the moon protect you with honesty, caring, and gentility. May the sun guide you with assertive perseverence. May the stars embrace you, bringing smiles to your faces and songs to your souls.
