The two singers have never met and only know each other's music through the dubbed CDs which I have given to them...it will be a truly amazing afternoon. Jane, as I said, is from NYC and is one of the sweetest, most down to earth people, and has one of the gentlest, most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Her 1995 album _Tapping the Wheel_ is pretty amazing, with songs of introspection, questioning, prayer, and realization...in addition to songs which show her influence from the poet Rumi. I first discovered Jane's music at the beginning of my freshman year in college...my first assignment for my school's paper was to review her album. I was excited for the assignment, but when the first second of the first song began, the assignment no longer meant anything--only her music meant something to me. I had the pleasure of meeting her just a couple months later--a truly blessed evening. This marked a pretty momentous evening for me, as it was the first time I had access of any sort to a singer who I had come to cherish and admire. Meeting Jane was a humbling experience. Hearing her perform live blew me away--the power of her voice, the energy of her sincerity, and the love she has for each note she sings or each chord she strums on her guitar is amazing. I left the concert with tears of joy and beauty flooding my eyes. Joel Cage is one of my Boston favourites. (The Boston scene is so blessed to have such great talents...many of whom will be visiting my living room...) I first heard him perform at Passim's Motown Night. I first heard his song on the "This is Boston Not Austin Vol. 2" compilation. And then I saw him again at my good friend Chris Snyder's house concert in June. Joel is one of the most passionate singers I have ever seen. When he sings, he sings purely out of his love for this gift bestowed unto him...and when he speaks, his voice is one of gentility and wonder. He is one of those people who you never get tired of speaking to or listening to...one of those people who shares so much of himself that he seems quite a miracle in our society. One of those people who you can speak to just once or twice but feel comforted in calling him a friend. His songs are pretty amazing...lyrically they are honest and blow me away. Musically, the intensity is so high and so amazing that you are captivated through and through from the first song. This guy's been around, and he'll be going around for far longer. Both Joel and Jane playing together is one of the most symbolic concerts I could ever be honoured with. Jane is the first singer I had access to...in that simple evening of meeting her and listening to her, I learned so much about the connections that can be formed when beauty is realized. Joel is the most recent of these...the newest singer to my collection of Bostonians and folk-types. So it is, for me, seeing my sense of appreciation and love of such beauty come full circle...with the first meeting the most recent for an afternoon of celebration, love, appreciation, and joy. Please come and share this special afternoon with me...and let me share this special music with *you*! RSVP, please, as soon as possible so I can get an idea of how many people to expect. There is always plenty of room for you...and I would love to welcome all of you into my home... Thank you for reading this far... all my love, Stephanie * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Stephanie Maria Kartalopoulos * The Greek Poet Chyck kartalst@hugse1.harvard.edu This is my prayer for you: May the moon protect you with honesty, caring, and gentility. May the sun guide you with assertive perseverence. May the stars embrace you, bringing smiles to your faces and songs to your souls. And I hear your voice through the darkness-it's music to my ears. -J.Bruce ------------------------------ End of cageheads-digest V1 #3 *****************************
