Those who showed up were rewarded with another terrific show that featured a few new wrinkles. For one, Lauren played with a new guitarist, Stuart Mathis, instead of her usual cohort Corky James. Stuart also plays guitar for local So Cal artist Brooke Ramel, and he has his own band called Dear Enemy. Thanks go out to fellow LC fan Jack for this information. Apparently, Stuart had two days to learn Lauren's material. Given the circumstances, then, he did a wonderful job. His playing has a very blusey, intuitive feel to it, and his slide guitar work complemented her songs especially well. At this point, it isn't clear whether Lauren will continue to play with Corky or Stuart. It's possible, though, that she'll play with both in some form or fashion. We'll just have to wait and see. Also, Lauren played two new songs, "All That Matters" and "Better Than Us". Well, they're not exactly new - she's had them for a while but had yet to play them live this year. During the show, Lauren said that "Matters" was suppossed to be used for the movie "Stepmom" (it featured Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon) but never was, while "Us" might be used for an upcoming episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Both songs are excellent, so as long as they're released somewhere, that's what counts. And much to the delight of everyone there, Lauren played "Steep", a song from her first record. It was a thrill to finally hear her play a song from that album, and it was a set highlight, with Lauren hitting all of those oh-so difficult high notes with ease. She's looking to play "Vanessa's Father" eventually as well, so maybe we'll hear that one soon. So in short, it was another great night of music from Lauren. Until next time, take care! William :) Here was the setlist: 1. Killing Sammy 2. All That Matters 3. Breed 4. Sugar Snow 5. Better Than Us 6. Car Wash (Windows Down) 7. Ordinary Pain 8. Steep 9. Perfect Again 10. Who You Become 11. It's great to hear she did a song from her first album.
