I am a little surprised by three spoken tracks out of eleven. It is quite unusual, so i believe Brenda had a very good reason to do it. In a way i am afraid that it may be the firs step to transforming her into some kind of multimedia artist like Lorry Palmer, which would not make me feel too happy. On the other hand, people need to develop and follow their instincts, so if it goes taht way - that's what it is. i thik it because Brenda has been wrestling lately with lyrics so rich and dense that she might need to switch to some other form of expression, novel, or short stories... What do you think, cyber crew, are we to expect a novel by Brenda Kahn ? Talking about 38 minutes, i think it is okay, it doesnt matter how long it is, it is only quality that counts. and in Brendas case, the awareness of the real quality can come quite slowly. It is strange now to say - but i have a feeling, after listening for a long time, that Beauty Salon is a better record than Destination...even though it could have been recorded in a different manner. And there is one more thing I'd like to add, i was not sure for some time, but now i dare saying - Brendas lyrics remind me of a little known English band that was called Crazyhead. the same atmosphere I would say, i wonder - have they been her direct inspiration? Does anybody know something about this. And finally about buffalo nickel, okay Brenda, let us guess for some tim what could it be, but then, as I know that you follow this list, give us the answer to our questions from time to time. She's a person who has been able to present herself to the world as a songwriter, and that's certainly one aspect of her, but she can't be defined only by what you know of her. I doubt very much that it's any kind of a "switch." I personally write songs, poetry, short stories, philosophical explorations, essays, I draw comic books, draw with charcoal, create computer art, sing, improvise blues lines...whatever it takes. If I ever made my mark with only one form of expression, I would never settle on forgetting any of the others. And really, what's the difference between a song and a poem? A melody? << And finally about buffalo nickel, okay Brenda, let us guess for some tim what could it be, but then, as I know that you follow this list, give us the answer to our questions from time to time. They only have worth now as collector's items (I have a few myself). Having not heard the song, I don't know how it relates to the song. - -dennis ------------------------------ End of bklist-digest V2 #42 ***************************
