The CD contains 11 tracks, three of which are spoken word tracks (Mexico One, Mexico Two & Mexico Three), exploring the poor living conditions in Mexico. These spoken word tracks start, centre and close the CD. The imagery portrayed by these tracks are very vivid: The Cuban tobacco sickly sweet against the ice blue water like melted margaritas, grenadine and mouthwash. Like Brenda's previous efforts, the lyrics are very rich and the richness is enhanced by the clarity and beauty of Brenda's voice. Although, all the lyrics are on the CD insert, you do not need to read them ... the sound is crystal clear. The title track, Hunger, features Ernest Adzentoivich on bass. The bass starts off the song and exudes an eerieness similar to the opening sequence of the TV show, Millennium. My favourite song is the most touching and beautiful "Light". In it, she sings: Alone, waiting for the call Now, there is no one at all To see, What you meant to me The CD is dedicated to the memory of Brenda's friend, Jeff Buckley, and many of the songs expresses her loss. Jeff Buckey would be proud of Brenda's latest effort and undoubtedly is playing "Hunger" somewhere in heaven. Other songs I really like are: "So What If I Saw Jesus", "Sidestep The Bullet" and "Dictaphone". One song I didn't care too much for was "Christopher Says" --- a reworking of a song that was supposed to be on the Sony version of "Destination Anywhere", before Chaos Records folded. It's a song about a "very gentle, very cruel rejection" (Braitman, AP, 1995). Overall, I would strongly recommend that you purchase this record. Even though the record has only a running time of 37:51, it's 37:51 of excellent music. What's the significance of that? ========================================== Thought of the Day: The sky's the limit when your heart is in it. ------------------------------ End of bklist-digest V2 #41 ***************************
