Primarily that Magdalen is dissapointed because the record doesnt follow the way that should be followed from her point of view. It's okay, but I am afraid that what Magdalen expects is to sink into the mainstream. I dont know why should Brenda try to do it "They said they only wanted well behaved boys Do they think guitars and microphones are just fucking toys" - The Crass - It's a kinda shes got her temporary job and doesnt have to care much todo the things "right" a few more remarks > The disappointment kicks off with "Reconcile," a bombastic parody of Kahn's > gritty sincerity and uncluttered edginess. Well I think that it is not that Brenda wanted the song to be too straight. On the other hand I have a feeling that she got aware somehow that people started understanding her as some protest poet - leader of the movement. Dont believe she would like to be that kind of person. So this parodical feeling is something that I understood was intended. This is what Magdalen missed. > On this and the other uptempo > tunes, her sloppy band provides little more than a backdrop for > self-indulgent shouting and punk pretensions. I agree that the band is sloppy, but it fits okay, and PUNK PRETENSIONS are something that i like the most in whatever she does. Finally somebody who could transfer that feeling into modern sound. >While "Reconcile" and > "Yellow Sun" might sound nice sandwiched between X tracks on an early-'80s > compilation CD, or played loudly by drunken friends in your basement, here > they come off like excuses for a sensitive girl to live out her > wannabe-rock-star fantasies. This Magdalen is ... What is better than to have a song that could be sung by drunken friends. Can you tell one sigle song that could be sung that way that was released in last 10 years anywher in the world? I miss such songs. Thats why I love Brenda. And if there is any cliche it expecting Brenda to be " sensitive girl with guitar". i never thought of her as "sensitive" in that way. > Considering all the possibilities, why she opted for a predictable > bar band is beyond me. No wonder. Love to all Love to Brenda Sava ------------------------------ End of bklist-digest V1 #65 ***************************
