After she returned to New York, she soon became a central figure on the Lower East Side music scene. At Magic Shop Studio, she recorded a demo which soon became her independant debut album "Goldfish Don't Talk Back". On Nov 2 1989, the day the CD came to the shops, her car broke down. On St Mark's Place, she found a couple of Polish guys who helped her restart the car. So, she hit the road to the West. She and her road manager Jennifer Johnson named it "The Malnutrition Tour" (The name associated with Madonna's "Blonde Ambition Tour") It was a beginning of a year-long stay out of New York. With Minneapolis her new home, she started to tour all around North America and started to build a true fan-base in towns like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Louisville, St Louis, Chicago, Boston etc. One day she, decided to explore Juneau " and the people asked me why. 'Why did you go to Alaska', and I said 'To climb the hill','And what did you find there?' 'Myself' ". The inner unrest became bigger as the time passed. Brenda met Jonathan Block who later became her manager - and the chance to go back to NY and make a new album became stronger. She moved into the vicinity of Brooklyn, lived in a factory and worked at night as a waitress in a nearby pizzeria. With her new demo, she found a way to sign a contract. The wheels of the industry started to roll. The recording sessions for "Epiphany in Brooklyn" started in the winter of 1992. "We made the songs", says Brenda," and then we would record them with David who did the production. He let me do exactly what I wanted to. On the whole record, there is not a single compromise." "You make your art, and you live your metaphors", she explained her thoughts. On one of her T-shirts that have been made for the Tallahassee- show, it says: "The artist formulates the question that the audience misinterprets to be the answer" "Epiphany in Brooklyn" will definitely pose more questions than it can answer. And Brenda Kahn will surely heighten the standard with which we measure the singer/songwriter. Anyway, her music reminds us that a tiny little voice can be extremely strong and powerful. - ----------------------------------------------- Thanks, Sava, for your excellent job in the translation ...
