But I had the privilege of seeing Susan in concert at Dalton College tonight; she did a show there on her way to Decatur for the concert tomorrow at Eddie's Attic. The college arranged it and (I'm assuming) paid her, so it was free to the public! I can post further comments when I'm not so brain-dead from a week of working and a night of driving back and forth from Chattanooga to Dalton (about 45 minutes). But here's the set list as best as I can get (some songs I'm not familiar with, so I'm merely guessing at titles. Those more familiar with her newest (unrecorded) stuff, please correct me! GUITAR: Hey, Hey (new one for me but she said that was the title) Why Is Your Heaven So Small Our Father Did Trouble Me My Different Son Kicking the Beehive I Know What I Want [in between here, she did a brief jam session with 2 teenagers who were in attendance; he plays guitar and commented on her chord progression in the previous song and she invited him and his girlfriend onstage to perform a song while she picked up on piano halfway through. Very cool.] The Last Words of Bonnie Parker PIANO: Manhattan, Kansas Chicago Anyday Career Counseling 101 (very funny song, she said this was the title but she may have been kidding) I Can't Be New (back on guitar) May I Suggest (piano again) Movie of My Life (also piano) Time Between Trains (guitar) (encore) Wouldn't It Be Loverly (so divine, love this song, wish she'd record it!) In typical Susan fashion, she entertained us in between songs showing off her previous knowledge about the South, Georgia in particular, and NASCAR and other symbols of redneck culture; and asked what foods she needed to eat while she was down here (suggestions were shouted out in rapid succession, everything from fried pickles to grits). It was a small crowd and it took a while for non-fans to warm up to her; but soon everyone was laughing, clapping, tapping, cheering, and even singing along. She definitely acquired some new Southern fans tonight! That's all for now. Comments and questions welcome.
