Gorka opened the show, doing about a half-hour set, with Susan joining him on his last number. She then did about a half-hour before intermission. The second half of the show was both of them, taking turns, and definitely feeding off each other's selections, to hilarious effect. John did:B I'm From New Jersey, I Saw a Stranger With Your Hair, Writing in the Margins, Let Them In, and People My Age.B He was then joined by Susan, on piano and harmony vocals, on I'm Gonna Reach. John left, and Susan opened with Hey Hey, spoke a moment about touring with John, or 'The George Clooney of folk music', then did Heaven So Small, Our Father (New Revised Edition), Sunday Mornings, and Chicago Any Day.B She then spoke of being 'Colette Porter', and did I Can't Be New. Spoke with her at intermission. She'd complained on stage about 'having' to wear red, to match John in his trademark red t-shirt and red shoelaces.B She was wearing black slacks, red tee, and black vest.B She said she felt that red just wasn't her color, but I dunno, she looked fine to me! She also expressed her delight at finally performing in East Lansing, and had spent some time that day touring the MSU campus - which everybody should do when they're in the area, it's really beautiful.B You could tell she'd made a lot of new fans, cuz everybody wanted a piece of her at intermission!! The second half started with Gorka, on When She Kisses Me.B SW then did Big Car, and she then expressed her initial excitement at seeing there was an 'Oldsmobile Park' in Lansing, and hoping that meant that she'd be able to go there to see Oldsmobiles - and was disappointed to find that not to be the case (it's a farm team baseball stadium for the Lansing Lugnuts).B JG then did Winter Cows, which SW followed with Barbed Wire Boys.B JG then did Italian Girls, which contains the lyric 'I was the only one I'd ever had' - which caused SW to move to the piano to do a rollicking boogie-woogie blues number called, perhaps, The Other Room - about your sweetheart participating in, um, solo activity of a personal nature in the other room...it was hilarious, and it sparked a whole trip to the gutter between SW and JG which caused 'the show to lose it's all-family label'.B Too fun! JG did a new tune then, called Ignorance and Privilege, which he prefaced by saying that GW Bush was like a man who'd woken up on third base and thinking he'd hit a triple. SW then did May I Suggest.B JG followed with Good - which caused SW to counter with another new one called I'm Bad - quite possibly the most proudly politically incorrect song ever - hilarious!! They then joined, magnificently, on Stay on Your Side of Town. Wow, what a great combination!B John's voice was low and husky, and they traded verses...it was done to perfection, and really worked well.B A stunning presentation!!!!B As SW put it, 'this is from our upcoming love duets album'. They encored with Curtis Mayfield's People Get Ready. A great night of music!B It was encouraging to see so, so many people out on a Friday night for live music, and great to see/hear Susan win over yet another crowd.B Here's hoping she comes back soon! I thought it was rather interesting that she did nothing from the 'Classics' CD. Happy Listening, Suzie T.
