When I read your opinion of "Classics", Suzie, I thought that I was likely to agree with you (I didn't yet have the disc). The idea of an album of covers backed by strings didn't strike me as very likely concept to measure up to the standards set by the other recent "stellar" (yes, they have been) releases. Well, beginning with my drive from Bloomington back to Champaign, I've now heard the new one several times. I love it! Susan thoroughly remakes each song, deftly mixing classic pop with classic classical, all with classic Suze. Whodathunk that Bob Marley and Erik Satie would work together within the same mix. In my opinion, Susan pulls it off beautifully. The legendary Ms. Darcy L. Greder has been hosting Blue Moon Coffeehouse concerts at Illinois Wesleyan for 17 years. Susan has now performed there 13 times. Blue Moon is clearly one of Suze's favorite venues. The sound is perfect and the audiences *listen*. We were treated to two sets, with the cake 'n' coffee interlude. Only one song from "Classics", Stevie Wonder met Frederic Chopin in "All in Love is Fair". Another song isn't, yet, on any album (a prime candidate for a free web song, ala "My Strange Nation", I hope) was directly inspired by Susan's trip to Grant Park on November 4th. It is "The Night We Won the War". Susan isn't yet totally comfortable with all of the lyrics, but it is a wonderful song to go along with our new-found hope. Playing the role of Jane Paul for two weeks is the lovely Kellie Lin Knott, who it was fun to meet after seeing her posts here and there thru the years. She didn't sing a note, however. Strictly a roadie this week. Jane is off skiing down a mountain somewhere. So, anyway Suzie, give "Classics" a bit more time. I think it will grow on you. As Kellie suggested, it goes great with a glass of wine, at night. And, of course, drop down to Kazoo, the end of next month, to catch a Suze fix at KVCC. ~Richard HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V12 #2 ****************************** ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
