Are you on this list?), says, of 'Time Between Trains': "Another of the modern folk-rock goddesses, Susan Werner's dark-chocolate voice and superior musicianship makes this disc a mainstay in my CD changer." I love the dark-chocolate analogy. Kellie, I bought 2 extra CDs at the show Sunday night, and mailed 'em out to friends Monday morning. I'd have bought more but both my kids need new baseball shoes. I could think of at least 6 more people with whom I wanted to share. Susan, if you're reading this - THIS is the project that cries out for a songbook. Choirs need this stuff! SATB, ASAP! I think that My Lord Did Trouble Me could be a standard at any AME church, and a gospel hit. For some reason it reminds me of Springsteen's recent Seeger Sessions. But you dare not let the church people see what's on the rest of the CD! I've played samples from the CD for a bunch of people at my church and they all love it -- and I've actually only played them the "irreverent" ones (the Our Father and Probably Not)! Here were a bunch of the "blue-hairs" demographic, Wednesday morning Bible study ladies, all tapping their toes and bobbing their heads along to "Probably Not"!! Priceless. (or maybe they just couldn't hear well enough to know what the song was about - -- haha ;o) A bunch of them have ordered the CD and are raving about how much they love it, they want to share it with their grandchildren when they come into town for Easter, etc. So I think more "church people" than some realize will actually like the CD in its entirety, although of course you probably wouldn't catch many churches actually singing the Our Father or Probably Not in a worship service, but some of the other ones I could DEFINITELY see in that setting -- yes, Did Trouble Me, definitely. Also I Will Have My Portion and Help Somebody. And not just at AME churches, either. I could totally hear the choir at my Episcopal Church back in Boston singing it. (Not so sure about the church here -- most of the music they use in worship is the stodgy old Anglican "dead white men" hymns... *sigh*... I gotta shake these people up a bit... ;o) So anyway, YES, SONGBOOK. NOW!!!! :o) HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Apr 2007 23:31:49 +0000 From: capitoltee@comcast.net Subject: Church People Ron wrote: "But you dare not let the church people see what's on the rest of the CD!" Ah, Ron, you underestimate us 'church people'. Like Tracy, I've shared this CD with members of my (Methodist) church, and I fully intend to share it with my pastor - who is, by the way, a native Chicagoan, and I live for the day 'Chicago Anyday' gets recorded so I can share it with him. Anyway - so far the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I think that the 'religious' people who will be offended by this CD are the very ones Susan challenges in '(Why Is Your) Heaven So Small'. Nothing's going to change that. There are those that will damn this CD in its entirety, unequivocally - perhaps even just because of its title. Do a 'Google' search on the phrase 'The Gospel Truth' and you'll see what I mean. But I think there are a great many MORE 'religious' people who practice compassion rather than intolerance. Who give unconditional love rather than selective acceptance. Whose faith is not threatened by someone asking questions and sincerely seeking answers. SSA, SSAA, SAB, SATB, TTBB - bring on ALL the different choral arrangements!! Whatever it takes for all of us to be able to sing this stuff on a Midwestern Sunday Morning! st HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2007 17:44:18 -0700 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: Re: Church People > "But you dare not let the church people see what's on the rest of the CD!" > > Ah, Ron, you underestimate us 'church people'. I didn't mean the "cool" church people. :-) I meant, you could take Did Trouble Me and give it to any bible-thumper, and they'd be fine with it. Or you could maybe get it played on a gospel or Christian station. And maybe a couple other songs on the CD. But, you couldn't give them the whole CD and expect them to ferret out the pure gospel songs and ignore the questioning songs, once they caught on to the overall place the CD was coming from. Personally, I can hear Allison Krauss singing it... BTW, this is possibly a dumb question, but I'm about as non-religious as they come, so... did Susan write that melody for "Our Father...", or is it an actual song?
