Suze, for instance, doesn't always play any one song of hers at every concert. there are songs i always want to hear that she omits, and requests that go by the wayside too, but honestly, every song she plays IS one i wanted to hear as well! and she always pulls something out to surprise me/us. now, with Richard Thompson and Vincent 1952 (the Red Molly thread for those of you not paying attention), i have wished that he wouldn't feel compelled to play it. sometimes i think i would rather hear Beeswing, which i only heard him play once, but which i find to be equally deep and meaningful of a story-song, and in much the same vein. yet, you know, if he did NOT play VBL1952, i would likely feel like i was short sheeted.... and it wasn't even a radio hit! jv HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 May 2006 08:09:02 -0700 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: Re: red molly's roots >>when an artist has an incredible popular song and ends up > essentially having to play it at every single concert, i've always felts > that a combination of performance fatigue (not to be confused with > performance anxiety) and, to a lesser extent, listener fatigue sets in. With the exceptions of Born to Run and Thunder Road. Speaking of which, Springsteen's Seeger Sessions band is playing at the smallish Greek Theater in LA. I was lucky enough to get two tickets, although not together, for this show, which sold out in 12 minutes. Both times I've seen RT (at Falcon Ridge a couple years ago, and at last year's New Haven Folk Festival, where I got to meet him and witness him being one of the sweetest human beings on the planet, which was gratifying to see because sometimes the legends just aren't) he did "Beeswing". And it slew me both times. > yet, you know, if he did NOT play > VBL1952, i would likely feel like i was short sheeted.... He played that one both times as well, and while when I think about it I think I could take it or leave it, both times I was really really glad I'd had the opportunity to see him play that in person. (I would've sworn he played it on a 12-string until I saw him live. Really, I was blown away.) > and it wasn't even a radio hit!
