He used documents and documented events to prove his premise. lincoln the liberator the benchmark of honor for the republician party. remember the anti conservative arguement of the republicans ....as holding lincoln up as their beacon of liberty and liberalism.... Suzie used this literary controversy to fuel her Strange Nation the book is by C.A. Tripp and is called The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln FROM SALON Jan. 12, 2005 | Let's skip over the question of whether Abraham Lincoln was gay for a minute, especially since we don't know and, absent some startling revelation, we never will. (Let's also bypass the related question of whether we should care.) The question that bothers me, right now, is why a book quite as bad as "The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln" had to be published. It's a book that does nothing except fling mud on the reputation of its author and require reviewers to speak ill of the dead. This posthumous (and evidently unfinished) volume by the well-respected sex researcher C.A. Tripp purports to marshal the evidence that our greatest president possessed "a plentiful homosexual response," to use the author's terminology. In fact, it does nothing of the kind. All Tripp has got, at the end of the day, is one well-known historical fact whose significance has long been disputed and two items of second- or third-hand gossip from Civil War Washington (one of them not recorded until 30 years later). The fact is that as a young man Lincoln shared a bed for four years in Springfield, Ill., with a man named Joshua Speed, perhaps the closest friend he ever had. The gossip suggests that a certain Capt. David V. Derickson, attached to the Pennsylvania regiment that guarded Lincoln, may have slept in the presidential bedroom a few times in 1862 when Mary Lincoln was away. all you gutta do is google.... sharon First we forgot where wed planted those bulbs last year, Then we forgot that wed planted at all, Then we forgot what plants are altogether, and I blamed you for my freezing and forgetting and The nights were long and cold and scary, Can we live through February? dar williams HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Feb 2006 07:53:28 -0800 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: Lincoln was Gay? The Triple Door is a nice venue, even though it's downtown and parking is a bit of a hassle. In the first half of the show Susan played 2 or 3 songs from her new CD on the guitar rather than the piano. Thanks for listing the set list, John, as I didn't keep track. I was there with a special friend who is visiting from Australia. He'd never seen Susan before and was quite impressed. I suspect it originated from our very own list member, Paul, as Susan dedicated Philanthropy to us. She said a few things that most people do not know. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. I wanted to talk with her after the show (to confirm Paul's involvement, if nothing else!) but also to thank her, but we headed back to the hotel. And, yes, Paul, I did turn bright red. And John - if by chance you were sitting near the couple inspecting each other's tonsils and then some most of the show, that was not us. They were directly in front of us. We have manners! I envy you easterners who get to see Susan more than once a year. She never disappoints. Pamela who is headed back to the hotel!! I'm not so sure. If she's trying to say that the power in the US is in the north, I wouldn't think that to be accurate. The prez is from Texas and a lot of southern folks in Congress have a lot of power. I just don't see it as accurate, nor do I see it as a point worth making at this juncture in US history. We really don't think in terms of north and south. I started thinking about this. Water can't flow uphill, right? So all the rivers in the US flow either to the west coast, the east coast or southerly to the Mississippi and then south to the gulf. So I'd say the US must be tilted so the water in the center flows south. On the other hand, when you're talking about tilting, you could say it either way. Something tilted toward the north either is higher in the north or lower in the north, depending on how you're looking at it.
