Two sets with the usual distinctions: first set mostly piano, mainly songbook and with spiffy clothes, second set more guitar and denim. Susan seemed more serious this trip, or maybe it was just my perspective. We took two newbies with us, and they enjoyed her show, her skill, her craftsmanship, her art, thoroughly. The bass player's flight was messed up and he never made the gig. (Ah, and Susie didn't have my phone number...!) She playing the Portland Jazz festival this weekend, and hopefully he'll have made it by then. It would be so cool if she got to meet up with Nancy King and Steve Christofferson, a local Portland jazz duo that are just awesome, awe-inspiring. Set list: Unread book (?) Don't sleep with your friends Don't I know you from somewhere Let's regret this in advance No one needs to know Your side of town Give me Chicago (?) Philanthropy You came through When I'm away from you (?) I can't be new - --break-- Long time between trains Big car Old mistake (there might have been another one in here!?) Au naturel (?) Barbed wire boys May I suggest A few new tunes: one about Still believing (but not the old tune), about decades? one about It tripped me? (or It tempted me? ...I'd had a few glasses of Guinness by then, sorry) and then her version of the Lord's Prayer. Movie of my Life My Strange Nation and the encore: Never my Love. The question marks indicate new songs. Maybe some of you who get to see her more than once every year or so could fill me in with the actual titles. Thanks in advance! All in all, it was a great show. I wish I could get down to Portland tomorrow and see her again. hmm..., maybe I can! It does seem unseemly to be reconstructing a man's life who's been gone nearly 150 years - who's not here to explain, defend, confirm, or ignore. I'm more interested in "tilted slightly toward the north." Is that a geographic fact? Does it mean Minnesota is higher than Texas, or vice versa? Seems to me that in terms of elevation, it's mostly west of the Rockies.
