The Cubs have fallen an insurmountable 20 games behind the Cardinals in the National League Central, so all signs indicate that it's Fall again in Chicago. But summer was fun. And for those of you who missed out on the Falcon Ridge Festival Cruise, here's what Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia, looks like this photo: http://SomethingBlack.com/nova_scotia.htm but i can't really describe for you what it looked like to be on the north atlantic ocean at night. it was my favorite part of the trip, to go up on the deck and take in the sky and the stars and the moontrail on the water. i stood there at the rail (like titanic, yes, exactly, of course) and marveled at the fact that 1) the earth really is two thirds ocean, and that 2) there are no cell phone towers out at sea. i LOVED this vacation. thanks to the nields and the kennedys and ann saunders and everybody who came cruising with us. and what a festival falcon ridge had this july: great weather and a terrific song swap friday night with chris smither and vance gilbert and jimmy la fave and oh it just went on and on. climbed up to the hillside campsites, too, and enjoyed some delicious beverages with our friends from smoe.org. love that grape ne-hi. :-) but now its back to work, and the book for fall will have me booking around the country. here's a few of the highlights: thursday, october 20th: Wilmington, DE: Grand Opera House, with Steve Forbert and Janis Ian. A songwriting clinic, and i'll be the one in the corner taking notes. and no, i will not sing Carmen that night, no matter how heavy they lay on the rococo decor. friday, october 21st: Somerville Mass: Somerville Theater, with Lucy Kaplansky. get out the conditioner, because i'll have to get my tresses together to share the stage with lucy, who has the most gorgeous hair, and quite possibly the most gorgeous voice, of anybody on the circuit. totally psyched for this one. w/greg holt on the upright bass. saturday, october 22nd, Irvington NY: Irvington Town Hall, with Steve Forbert. the dude is one of the best songwriters alive. really. i'll be the blushing fan waiting in line trying to get his autograph. two concert dates with Keb' Mo' in california: tuesday October 25th, Redding CA, and friday October 28th, Malibu, CA (Pepperdine U.) a thrill. and fun, to boot. and there's plenty of other places to talk about: heading back to the homeland to see the kinfolk in iowa, returning to cleveland (i have come to love cleveland, the quintessence of humility), and down to Eureka Springs Arkansas (arkansas is prettier than you think, so knock it off, already). some of you have been asking, so here's the latest on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz: SW's interview and performance will be broadcast the week of Tuesday November 29th. Most local affiliates broadcast Piano Jazz on the weekends (in Chicago, for example, it'll be sunday morning, december 4th, on WBEZ, 91.5 FM, at 11 am). you can check for your local affiliate info here: http://www.npr.org/schedule/index.php?prgId=24 alright everybody, that's the news. lots of new tunes to try out, so when you come to the show you'll hear just what kind of musical style i've gotten myself into now. and no, it isn't opera; i can't fit into that little tin bra and horned hat outfit anymore. :-) see you round the contiguous campus - - -s- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~SCHEDULE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please check with the venue before you make the trip 9/30/2005 CSPS/Legion Arts Cedar Rapids, IA 319-364-1580 8:00 pm 10/1/2005 Maintenance Shop Ames, IA 515-294-2772 8:00 pm 10/7/2005 Berrie Center for Performing and Visual Arts Mahwah, NJ 201-684-7844 8:00 pm 10/8/2005 Mauch Chunk Opera House Jim Thorpe, PA 570-325-4439 9:00 pm 10/14/2005 All Soul Acoustic Coffeehouse Tulsa, OK 918-743-2363 7:30 pm 10/15/2005 Convention Center at the Inn of the Ozarks Eureka Springs, AR 479-363-0363 8:00 pm 10/20/2005 Grand Opera House Wilmington, DE 302-652-5577 8:00 pm 10/21/2005 Somerville Theater Somerville, MA 617-628-3390 8:00 pm 10/22/2005 Irvington Town Hall Theater Irvington,NY 914-591-5434 tba 10/25/2005 Laxson Auditorium (with KebMo!!)
