Susan did end up playing it straight for the real thing, and it sounded wonderful and went over well with the Fenway Faithful. Sadly, with the new Red Sox ownership there is a new person in charge of booking the anthem singers, so the cache of Rounder Records artists (e.g. Nerissa and Katryna Nields) and other singer/songwriter favorites (e.g. Susan, Merrie Amsterburg) that got to sing the anthem for a few years is no longer in favor at the front office. That's too bad. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 May 2005 17:15:34 -0700 From: "Ron Rosen" Subject: Re: Ft. If she didn't do the Bobby McFerrin version at the game, how did the Rangers' batting coach come to hear it? What did it sound like? Unlike most of the Fenway anthem singers, Susan got to sing hers live. This required a "sound check" before the gates opened, so she could experience the PA delay before she had to do the real thing. The Rangers were taking their batting practice at the time. I don't recall every part of it, but I do remember she went off into all sorts of odd time signatures and ended up with a lot of scat-singing by the end of it. It was pretty funny, especially once we got her assurance that she wouldn't really do it that way in front of people. :) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 May 2005 23:40:51 -0400 From: wojizzle forizzle Subject: Re: Ft.
