I saw Susan's show this past Wednesday and she apologized after the show to a Chicago resident for not performing the song. It reminded me how much the song always gives me a kick. BTW, Wednesday's show in Camden County was a lot of fun. She played the same venue - in a small ampitheatre in a park in Mt. Ephraim - about three years ago, and I had completely forgotten about this cute little park until I showed up. Tyrone Brown played with her, and it was pretty much her normal "I Can't Be New" set, although she did honor requests for "Petaluma Afternoons" and "Movie of My Life." She also did one song that was new to me, a delightful piano romp called "When I Think About You." The show was nearly rained out, but we rode the storm out and the rain ended by the time the show started out. Although I did get a kick out of seeing Susan before the show, as she bounced a friend's baby around and softly sang "Everytime it rains, it rains/Pennies from heaven..." Susan got a laugh when I told her that it was my fortieth Susan Werner show in eleven years - "You kept count?!" she said. "Yes, and you're just ahead of Richard Thompson." "Oh, man, you gotta tell Richard that!!" - -Tim HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Aug 2004 21:41:46 -0400 From: Leslie Dreyer Kalra Subject: Exton show Hi, all... Hey, I finally got to a concert last week, so now I feel I might have something, however trivial, to contribute to the list...:) Since the show was outside, we took the kids, which made it a challenge to hear anything, but after a while I left the kids with DH (we're both fans, but I'm the really rabid one) and sat up front. As Tim said, her set list was pretty much "Can't Be New", but then she did some oldies but goodies, like "Movie of my Life", followed by some new tunes, including "When I Think about You", which Tim mentioned (I think that was the one she said was a "world premiere" that night) and "Give Me Chicago". I hadn't heard that before, and boy was it a treat! She encored with two songs, one of which was "Wouldn't it Be Loverly", which was just incredible. After the show I went to ask her to sign my "Can't Be New", and once again I turned into a blithering idiot. My daughter had her sign a page titled "Famous Singers". I wanted to actually talk to Susan, especially to ask her about "Loverly", but all coherent thought just went out of my head. I could hardly remember my kids' names. I guess I'm just in awe of someone who is my age and so accomplished at something I always wanted to do but didn't. Also last week I got a new toy for my birthday: an iPod. Completely extravagant, but it has become my new constant companion. I've listened to more Susan in the last few days than I have in the last year, and I just have to say "wow!" and "wow!" again. I continue to be amazed by Susan's songwriting, musicianship and utter professionalism. Somehow, I feel like this album just *jells* more than any other, like she's found that unique voice (that we always knew she had) that will bring her the attention she deserves. The other albums had such a mix of genres that no one could really figure out just where the market was. This album has a more identifiable sound. I just hope it doesn't mean she won't play small venues like Godfrey Daniels and these little outdoor gigs. I've been indoctrinating my children since birth, so they'll need to be able to catch some concerts when they're older... The concert also made me want to do "Stay on Your Side of Town" for the tribute CD, but I'd need a whole lot of hours at the piano to do that. Then again, at the rate we're going, the CD might not be done before I get it...;) Leslie Dreyer Kalra HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at World Cafe CDs http://worldcafecds.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Aug 2004 11:54:10 +1000 From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: Re: Exton show Hey folks, Leslie said: > a more identifiable sound. I've I noticed last week that Godfrey Daniels has Susan listed in mid-October... the week *after* I come back home from Baltimore (I swear Susan's avoiding me!). Hmph. Folks in the area might be interested in seeing SONiA of disappear fear and Rachael Sage at Godfrey Daniels on October 2; hope to see some of you there...
