What an unexpected and wonderful treat that must've been. I agree, just when you think you've heard it all, she pulls something new and fresh and completely unexpected out of the hat and just blows everybody away with her take on it. And in non-Susan news, for those of you who aren't familiar with him, run to see Peter Mulvey the next time he's in your neighborhood. I had my first (small) taste of him at the 2004 Ann Arbor FF in January, and he brought the house down in 4 songs that night. Got to see him up close at personal at the Ark Friday night (with Jeff Focault and instrumentalist David Goodrich) and, man, he's something else. He encored with a positively scorching, sultry, slow cover of Ray Noble's 'The Very Thought of You', which would be the 'torch song' portion of this post. Check out his '10,000 Mornings' - recorded live in the Boston Subway, complete with train sounds.
