BUT... i wish they would have had the budget to wait a couple weeks and re-think a few things. guess i'll be kicked off list now. i'm still getting married in a couple months. i still sang Nefertiti's Dream to my fiance on the day i proposed. i still love Suze and the new albuim and all the other ones. i just found it odd to hear some bad pitches.... if any of you are in Seattle on June 21st, come by the Arboretum and celebrate my marriage! best of wishes, john v of dual residence eugene oregon/seattle washington We can never rely on inspiration. No, you cannot be a nay-sayer in the folk world. Go to a rock list, where they can take it. > guess i'll be kicked off list now. Where's my $2? > i'm still getting married in a couple months. What do you think of the treatment of Cole Porter on the new CD? I just heard a bit of it on NPR. For my money, the best version of Cole Porter, with bass and drums, is on Midwestern Saturday Night. While I listen to ICBN I find myself thinking that she's a world-class songwriter, pianist and guitarist, but her voice isn't matching (sacrilege! *whip* *whip*), and that's unusual, but I felt the same way about some tracks on Time Between Trains. I haven't heard her in concert in a very long time (I hope to fix that this summer), so I don't know how it compares. Sometimes the intonation is for effect, I realize, but in other cases it just seems like fatigue. Sometimes I've wondered how these songs would sound with vocals by Rosemary Clooney (in her younger days) or k.d. lang. (*whip* *whip*) The only arrangement I don't like is "Much at All", which I think was done better on LotGSG. Somehow the tone of it just doesn't work on ICBN. But I tend to prefer the first arrangement I hear of a song anyway. That's just me. I do love this album, though, more each time I hear it. It's one of those albums that you need to play loud on the headphones (and I do mean *head*phones, not earphones) so the sound feels like it's enveloping you. Susan Werner has a way of getting under your skin, doesn't she? I guess I'll join you in the doghouse. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! It sounds lovely. May your marriage be as lovely as your wedding... Leslie P.S. Ron, agreed re Cole Porter and MSN. It seems like she's trying too hard to do something different with it and "Much at All" just for the sake of being different. Maybe not. What do I know.
