It was pretty good. I won't say it was great, because, let's face it, these guys are not consummate performers. Paul is a good guitar player, but he doesn't put out much energy with body language. Looks like an accountant. Art has those great harmonies but he's not really sure what to do with his hands. They did a nice job on the songs, although varying a few of the melodies slightly from the recorded versions we are familiar with. On this tour the Everly Brothers, who were big influences on S & G, are called out to perform 3 songs on their own, and one with S & G. To me they were the most exciting part of the show. They have stage presence, and great charisma. I will definitely be looking at their tour schedule. I would love to see them do a whole show. The Everlys do a GREAT live show. What's more, their lead guitarist was Albert Lee, who ranks just a few notches below Chet on the all-time-greats list; wonder if he's still playing with them. Don's voice sounded just as strong as it did in the old days. (Was Warren Zevon the one who called Don the greatest lead vocalist ever in rock and roll?) Phil's voice on the harmonies was a little weak at times, but they made up for it by "rocking it up" - making the phrases shorter and choppier so he didn't have to hold the high notes as long. Kinda like latter-day Sinatra, but a lot more fun and a lot less noticeable. It was so much fun that I was never bothered by the few "shortcuts" they took. Plus they did an acoustic version of the Delmore Brothers' "Blues Stay Away From Me," with Albert on mandolin, that was just magical. So, yeah, check them out, they're definitely worth it. - -Tim > [Original Message] > From: Ron Rosen > To: Believers > Date: 11/24/2003 9:51:37 PM > Subject: Simon and Garfunkel > > On this tour the Everly Brothers, who were big influences on S & G, > are called out to perform 3 songs on their own, and one with S & G. It was a fine show - she had us sing some lines from "Petaluma Afternoons" and then from Big Car and then from Cole Porter. That was fun. We brought her out for a second encore which seemed to surprise her (since Jane had taken away both guitars at that point). I haven't seen Susan in two years and there weren't a lot of new songs but that's okay. susan in alameda Kathleen asked: Has there ever been a concert where she didn't do "Much At All?"
