(Non-SW content) ["Chuck Ellingson" Subject: Kellie Lin Knott was in da house! (Non-SW content) With Victoria Davitt, and calling themselves "Chicks with Picks," Kellie Lin Knott blew away a small crowd of newly won admirers at "Barb's Basement" in Milwaukee! Kellie and Victoria did a great job of entertaining the petite crowd, singing mostly their own songs... including one Kel introduced as "a song I wrote by Stephen Sondheim," or words very similar to that ("Sooner or Later"). Kellie's comfort level onstage has really grown since the last time I saw her perform, and although her banter may not be quite as witty as that of someone else with whom we're all familiar... yet, that is! (quite the sharp tack, that SW) Kellie managed to sell a few CDs and endear herself to some new fans. "A genetic experiment, mixing the genes of Alanis Morisette and Billie Holiday" was how one audience member described Kellie, which caused another to exclaim "I was going to say the same thing... only with Alanis and Sarah Vaughan!" One of my favorites of all the songs I heard this weekend (and there were quite a few, as I just returned from my third concert of the past two days) was a haunting song, still a work in progress, which Kellie said she was inspired to write as she gazed upon the lake near her parents' home. After the song, Kellie commented that she was flirting with the idea of writing a new ending. (I told her after the concert that I really liked the ending the way that she performed it, but that I'd be very interested in hearing any revisions that she wrote.) If you get a chance to see Kellie in concert, I highly recommend you do so! You'll want to be able to say, "I knew her when..."! Peace, Chuck Ellingson "We must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but it is a means by which we arrive at that goal... We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means."
