For some reason enthusism has waned, and of the 15 tracks that were proposed, I've only received 4. I understand that Spring is a busy time for everyone (with a 20 month old daughter myself, the only time I can get into my own studio is before 7am or after 10pm!!), and this project is not time sensitive or vital in any way. I do hope though that those who still want to contribute could find a way to get their tracks recorded. I look at this as not only a way to share our talents with other list members, but more importantly to pay tribute to Susan and to thank her for the wonderful music that she's given us over the years. I'm not pushing anyone on this, but if you could hear the 4 tracks that I already have in hand, I think you'd be quite inspired to be a part of this compilation. Also, after this project is wrapped up, we're hoping to jump right into phase two, which would be a cd of original material from anyone here interested in contributing. Thanks for your time folks... Live At The House O'Muzak living room concerts in New Haven presents our final performance of the season: RUTHIE FOSTER (with Cyd Cassone) Sunday, April 27 at 4:00 pm $10 suggested donation Ruthie Foster is, simply put, a force of nature. Raised in small-town Texas on a steady diet of the likes of Mahalia Jackson, Sister Rosetta Thorpe, Sarah Vaughn and Etta James, Ruthie sang in her church's gospel choir and obeyed her mother's instructions to "Open your mouth and sing, girl!". After a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy Band and a number of years singing in New York City, Ruthie returned to her hometown, where she met her manager/parter Cyd Cassone (who will accompany her here on vocals and percussion). Ruthie has released 3 CDs so far, a mix of covers of classic gospel and blues, as well as her own original tunes which show the influence of her musical upbringing. Her performances are high-energy affairs that are guaranteed to get your feet stomping on the floor, and her voice will just blow you away. The first time we saw her on stage, as an opening act at the Iron Horse, the town of Northampton had no clue what had just hit it. Imagine how much fun she'll be in our living room! This is going to be an experience you won't soon forget. The suggested donation is $10, and we will have the usual snacks and soft drinks available. Please RSVP by e-mailing meth@smoe.org or calling us at 203-776-9325. Full address and directions will be provided with your reservation confirmation. Ruthie is one of those people who should be a household name, and it's a crime that she's not (yet). We really do hope to see you here this Sunday.
